Twitter/X is astonishingly lax about violent threats. I report them often - against me and others - and they’re almost never violations. The latest was someone saying a conservative public figure “better run faster than a bullet.” Still no violation.

These proportionality violations — seemingly routine in IDF operations — go far beyond sloppiness. They reflect a system that treats Palestinian lives as worthless and that likely constitutes a deliberate campaign to diminish Gaza's population through mass killing.

Of course, the problem with a belligerent reprisal theory is that the prior Iranian attack was against US warships—military objectives.

Unclear what the LOAC theory is for targeting these vessels. CENTCOM statement not framed in terms of enforcing the blockade, but instead suggests belligerent reprisal or possibly a “war sustaining” theory.

Detention in Extraterritorial Non-International Armed Conflicts: The Obligation to Provide Independent and Impartial Reviews Andrea Joy Harrison Free chapter | Read the Introduction on Elgaronline: doi.org/10.4337/9781... Available in print through our website: www.e-elgar.com/shop/isbn/97...
This thought-provoking book investigates the legal and practical difficulties faced by detainees attempting to challenge their detentions in non-international armed conflicts (NIACs), particularly those in which a State holds detainees outside its own territory.

Detention in Extraterritorial Non-International Armed Conflicts provides crucial insights into State practices on detention review boards, establishing the minimum legal criteria for an independent and impartial process. Chapters explore the treatment of NIACs under international humanitarian law and international human rights law, highlighting the limitations of both. Through conducting innovative research into the difference between judicial and administrative independence, the book proposes practical guidelines to assist detaining authorities in implementing their review obligations.

Research Handbook on Global Legal Education Edited by @swethaa.bsky.social, @ucirvinelaw.bsky.social and Bryant G. Garth, @abfresearch.bsky.social 🆓 Chapter | A kaleidoscopic invitation to consider global legal education: doi.org/10.4337/9781... More information: www.e-elgar.com/shop/isbn/97...
This authoritative Research Handbook examines legal training and its impact on law and society. Leading experts adopt a kaleidoscope perspective to compare diverse country case studies, highlighting shifting patterns rather than a single model of ‘global’ legal education.

Contributors explore how legal education remains nationalised via local histories, politics and markets, despite borrowing models and language from modern, merit-based, or global approaches. Chapters assess the appearance of law schools as powerful sites where divisions of class, race, gender, empire and prestige are reproduced, contested and sometimes reimagined. The Research Handbook demonstrates how familiar patterns of hierarchies, inequalities and Western-centric ideals travel widely alongside diverse efforts in majority world contexts to resist, revisit and reimagine fairer institutions. Combining doctrinal analysis, institutional histories, archives, interviews and fieldwork, this Research Handbook advances research and promotes further study.
