It’s straight out of his mentor Don King’s playbook. Wave a wad of cash in the sucker’s face as they voluntarily sign up to be fleeced for much, much more.

Bad theatre with a bad script, bad set design and props, and really bad actors.

“I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.” The notion of effective self-regulation by this rapacious industry and its current leaders is absurd.

The policy recommendation is sound - but any exclamations of love to his followers will be unrequited. But fix the policy anyway.

I must add that the cast in these films (led by Martin Landau) is shockingly impressive.

Pinocchio is a jerk in the book. The adaptations treasured by my autistic son, a lover of all things Pinocchio, are the “Adventures of” and “New Adventures of” films starring Udo Kier as a truly frightening, camp, and gender fluid villain, Lorenzini. My guy loves a memorable bad guy. Kier is that.

A force majeure notice is anathema to lenders. Delays (including permitting) and many, many other project risks are thoroughly contemplated and typically addressed in far less aggressive ways.

Why ProPublica Is Leaning Into Sports Investigations
Sports is a wealthy, powerful industry. We’ll cover the system instead of the games. We’ll ask who’s responsible for some of its biggest problems and who’s preventing them from being fixed.

Smart initiative. It’s not sports, or the business of sports, anymore. It is the global sports entertainment, finance, apparel, real estate, and gaming sector. And it demands public policy oversight and public accountability.

The Council is to be commended for crafting this agreement. The Johnson purchase deal was a non-starter, but the Council pulled the right levers. The restriction on use of funds(pensions) is very good.

Moving, or tearing down, goalposts is an integral component of the overall strategy of Trumpists. Across *all* domains. Oversight and accountability (in any form) is anathema to tyrants and their courtiers.

Given the recent sack of regulatory infrastructure in the US by DOGE, call me skeptical on the rationale. Yes, AI dangers need huge oversight, but the existential risk that may hit these tech lords first is a leverage fueled bubble bursting and dispersing their revenue projections to the winds.

genebensinger @genebensinger.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
We know how industry self- regulation and restraint turns out. Trump, Musk, Vought, the GOP led Congress, and allies destroyed the possibility of federal regulation of AI in the US. The only effective path to safety lies in Dems/Independents retaking Congress and crafting a global govt response.

Personally, I think the risks with algos and AI go beyond institutionalization: physical/mental harm and avoidable death come to mind. And where does liability reside in those instances? The licensee? The vendor (unlikely)? No one?

After Nebraska adopted an algorithm to assess the needs of people with developmental disabilities, more than 900 had their home care slashed—leaving families terrified their loved ones could be forced into institutions. A preview of what could soon be coming nationally after Trump’s Medicaid cuts.

A secretive computer algorithm is taking caregiving money away from disabled people
After Nebraska used a new interRAI tool to slash Medicaid funding for nearly 900 people, NBC News uncovered the hidden logic behind some of the cuts.

Interrai.com appears to be a private, global non-profit run by health economists who license their product to customers (states, institutions) to allocate, or ration, resources to a range of vulnerable populations. My immediate questions involve product design, transparency, and accountability.

Agriculture futures have been skyrocketing. That could eventually translate to price increases for consumers at the grocery store.

In all seriousness, I think he (and his supporters) will not stop at defunding threats in order to seize fresh water currently protected under the Great Lakes Compact. Thirsty data centers and dry to the bone states like TX would pay him handsomely to drain it. The Canadian provocations tie in.

Many (most?) of this Administration’s policies come with a body count (elevated, avoidable) and objective harm. They are unconcerned about those results. However, they are very focused on erasing and suppressing the facts and evidence of their actions.

Unfortunately, the actions in Europe were not matched in Japan and Asia. “Judgment at Tokyo”, by Gary Bass is a monumental work that illustrates how much the (in)action in pursuit of accountability in and Asia Japan cost. It’s a cost that continues 60+ years on.

Instead of a “Truth and Reconciliation Commission”, we’re going to need a “Truth and Reconcile the Books Commission”. Recommendations for federal restructuring, conditional amnesty for resource and asset disgorgement, referrals for prosecutions. I hope this path becomes possible and is effected.
