⚠️A rare red warning for wind has been issued for the Isles of Scilly and much of Cornwall.⚠️ Storm Goretti will bring a period of exceptionally strong winds this evening (Thursday evening), with peak wind gusts of 80-100 mph or more in exposed areas.

The @metoffice.gov.uk have updated the amber wind warning for the Isles of Scilly and parts of Cornwall. The text in the warning now says that during this evening (Thursday evening) there will be peak wind gusts of 80-100 mph in exposed areas.

Amber snow warning has been issued for parts of Wales, the Midlands & N England. Accumulations of 10-15 cm are likely fairly widely, with the potential for 20-30 cm in some locations, mainly on hills above 200 m elevation, more especially in Wales and/or the Peak District.

⚠️Yellow snow warning has been issued for parts of England & Wales through Thursday evening/night and into Friday. Storm Goretti could bring 5-10 cm of snow in some areas with up to 20 cm possible in some locations, especially over higher ground. Strong winds may lead to some drifting snow too.

The @metoffice.gov.uk has confirmed that 2025 was both the warmest and sunniest year on record for the UK. A rapid attribution study by the Met Office shows that human-induced climate change has made the UK’s record-breaking annual temperature of 2025 approximately 260 times more likely.

Here are some good news stories from 2025 🌍 🐢 Green turtles came off the ‘endangered’ list. 🪸 In September the Global Ocean Treaty was ratified. It is a landmark deal to protect the High Seas. The treaty pledges to put 30% of the high seas into Marine Protected Areas.

⚠️Amber snow warnings have been issued by the @metoffice.gov.uk through Friday & into Saturday for N Scotland. ❄️10-20cm of snow is likely within the amber warning areas, with 30-40cm possible on high ground. Windy conditions will also result in some drifting of snow & temporary blizzard conditions.

As we move into the final days of the year, 2025 has just overtaken 2022 as warmest year-to-date for Central England. Given the forecast, it looks likely that 2025 will end up being the warmest calendar year for this region since records began in 1659. The top 3 warmest will be 2022, 2023 & 2025.

Hurricane Melissa has made landfall on the south coast of eastern Cuba, as a category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120mph. Life-threatening storm surge, flash flooding, landslides and damaging winds are expected for eastern Cuba.

Hurricane Melissa has rapidly intensified into a category 4 hurricane. Melissa is tracking over sea surface temperatures that are 1.4C above average and according to the @climatecentral.org CSI Ocean tool these have been made up to 500-700 times more likely by human caused climate change.

The UK is in its 4th major heatwave of the summer. 🔴Highs of 25–33°C — up to 12°C above average — are at least 5× more likely due to human-caused climate change (almost impossible without it), impacting tens of millions through the weekend.

The @metoffice.gov.uk have issued an amber wind warning for central and northern Scotland for Monday ⚠️ Storm Floris will bring unseasonably strong and disruptive winds. Wind gusts of 50-70 mph are expected for many and are likely to reach 80-90 mph on some exposed coasts, hills and bridges.

Temperatures across the UK today and over the weekend have been made more likely by climate change. The @climatecentral.org Climate Shift Index shows that the temperatures have been made at least 3-5 times more likely. Climate change is making heatwaves more frequent and more intense.

The UK has recorded its sunniest spring on record according to provisional figures from the Met Office. This spring, the UK recorded 630 hours of sunshine from 1st March to 27th May, beating its previous sunniest spring set in 2020. The records go back to 1910. www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/new...

A yellow thunderstorm warning is in place today for Wales and parts of England. Very heavy downpours are possible, and these could give 20-30mm of rain in less than an hour, or potentially 40-50mm in 1-2 hours in a few places. Lightning, gusty winds and hail are also possible.

The Met Office have just confirmed that today is officially the warmest start to May on record for the UK, with 28.0C recorded at Kew Gardens, and temperatures still rising 🌡️📈 The previous record for 1st May was 27.4C recorded at Lossiemouth in Scotland in 1990.

According to Met Éireann yesterday a maximum temperature of 25.9C was recorded at the Athenry station in Co. Galway. This is provisionally a new April maximum temperature record for Ireland.
