REST is the largest API design prison out there, and GraphQL and MCP are mostly people building a second prison to avoid properly learning the first. There is not a single API design pattern to rule them all. You have 25 years of patterns laid down on top of the web to choose from. Pick your head…

I guess since the Chinese made their models free at the point of use and also cheap to run, they are already the winners here then aren’t they? I hadn’t before considered this as a device of international politics but it clearly is that now.

That US Wealth concentration effectively undermines so heavily productivity gains that claims of economic benefits of AI are simply false.

That France is in a bad economic position. Worse than most of France let alone those outside it really realise. That could be quite devastating if they default.

So I joined the Chatham House “What are the financial markets telling us” event this evening. A few things stood out. US AI Datacenter build outs were being undermined by Chinese efficiency innovation. If you don’t need that much compute to run LLMs why build it?

I have a lot of builds on the go at the moment. Mostly things I need rather than fun things. Autonomous GPU scheduler, distribution discoverability scanner, what I actually want to work on is Solar Flare forecasting with deep learning. But I need a lot more data to play with.

I think it is about influence and power. If you’re an individual you are powerless to stop it. The more you feel fear and the more ambiguity you have the easier it is to influence you and force you to accept something that is not acceptable and is solvable. Political imagination paralysis.

Working on a product test and architecture for autonomous GPU scheduling at the moment. Every time I feel i have made progress I then think of another angle I haven’t validated enough or tested. But you just have to get something out the sort sometimes. Nothing beats live testing!

I wish I knew about Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers before and red light therapy for wound healing. There are a lot of treatments out there not offered on public health which a lot of people would use and pay for to support recovery.

It has made me appreciate that suddenly small distances can look like long ones if you’re ill or vulnerable, and that you just need more time to do stuff when you’re sick with something. Easy to forget that and just rush around in the day to day.

Perhaps it’s that when a lot of business leaders focus on operating efficiencies what they really want is growth. But don’t know how to articulate how to get there and instead focus on a simpler narrative of operating efficiencies.

Well results from autonomous GPU scheduling on GenAI transformer architectures is so far 40% more efficient using RL. I can beat that if I can get hold of a dataset which isnt redacted I think. But that’s unlikely so I will run a product test next and work out how the architecture should look.

Ukraine needs help against Russian missiles now. What more can allies do?
Recent air defence pledges won’t deliver interceptors for years. Europe could help now by providing fighter cover, or by delivering more offensive weapons. Will it act?

I am busy on phase 2 of my RL workload management tool. So far struggling with datasets. Using the latest traces from Ali B Cloud. Part of the problem lies in how transformer architectures consume compute. Which added a complexity I hadn’t anticipated.

I notice also that on searching a bit that there are posts which undermine how little training data and money DeepSeek invested to achieve the same result as the US Labs. Well is this propaganda from the US labs PR and comms people? Or is it true? How do we know?

So the model providers have run out of training data and are buying up source code from old repos. Well this is a worry along with the book procuring and destroying for data ingestion which is routine. Our intellectual property is being undermined.

Some of the drone tech was quite black mirror… but what struck me was that so much of the software technologies that everything is built on is very old.. aerospace is a very conservative trade. Despite how fast drone tech and autonomous flight has moved.

Scaling Laws, Carefully
Scaling laws are one of the most critical empirical findings in deep learning. The observation is simple in form: the training loss $L$ decreases predictably as we scale up model size $N$, dataset size $D$, and compute $C$, following a power-law curve, which appears as a straight line on a log-log p
