I tried to like Silksong, but I just couldn't. I had a lot of fun in the original Hollow Knight, and happily worked through learning and levelling up my own skill on each boss until I was able to win the fight, but something about Silksong made this whole process far less fun.

Honestly, I've learned a lot from this experience! First, I've conceded that my argument had weak points, but not for the reasons this person called out. I should have stuck with "communities should distance themselves from members continuously making harmful statements". I'll be better next time.

The Rails community needs to distance themselves from DHH. This bigot has been openly spraying his racist, fascist, white supremacist philosophy all over the internet. If you look up this post (and there are many other terrible ones) he shows a lack of understanding of how biological systems work, but tries to create a parallel between wolves and the unhoused.

"When wolves get out of control, you shoot them. When gypsies take over public spaces, you deport them. This isn't hard, it isn't cruel. It's the basic logic of self-preservation."

Umm, dehumanizing an entire group of people you don't vibe with isn't cruel? Creating systems to support this group of people isn't even an option you'd consider? It makes sense he wouldn't though, as here's another one from a podcast he was in (source: https://xcancel.com/davidsenra/status/2081511391656337429)

"You have an obligation, if you sell a product or service and you make a lot of money on it, to put that money back into the system. Send some of that money to the craftsmen of Italy to create you a beautiful Ferrari."

I vehemently am against this narrow view (important note, he also later refers to it as a "moral obligation"). I'm not opposed to using financial privilege to support local artisans and whatnot, but DHH doesn't even toss out the idea that you can also use that privilege to donate to causes that support and lift the less privileged. Honestly, seems like his moral philosophy is "throw the underprivileged people not like me over the fence and make it someone else's problem while I live in my fancy house, buy/race fancy cars, and spout ostensibly intellectual tantrums in my echo chamber, whilst patting ourselves on the back for doing so"

A phpBB-esque network largely targeting the province where I grew up (RIP though, ~1 year ago) Many of my long-standing friendships formed there. Discussions were relevant. IRL meetups. Musicians put on shows/concerts to help fundraise for hosting costs. Nothing has come remotely close to it.

Recently learned the data center point is unlikely for what I'm building. LLM training/inference is gonna be a huge chunk, one that I'm not solving for. Then there are some high compute use cases like audio/video streaming, search, and large-scale data processing. Again, not solving those.

Today I get to celebrate: I've been working EXTREMELY hard to bring down my cholesterol over the past year. I was able to reduce it from 5.5 mmol/L, when it needs to be < 5.2, down to 4.6. Healthy choices—quitting a high-stress/burnout job, healthy diet, and exercise—means no need to go on statins!

As someone attempting to manage cholesterol nutritionally, I've learned that fiber-to-carb ratios are suggested to help with that. Problem: you may end up getting primarily insoluble fibre when you really need soluble fibre. It probably works out for the better, but should have an asterisk 😅

I'm very close to getting a demo out, and I think I'm realizing something: AT proto isn't important when we're talking private data. The reality is I can (and probably should) store the data however best fits the medium. What WOULD be important: easy ways to express and run transformations on data.

I recently had a chat with a friend. They were talking about how, at work, whenever they sit with a group at the lunch table, the conversation either is already about AI or converges to that. In a private slack, I saw someone ask about pair programming, and it quickly became an AI conversation.

Hot take (maybe?) that I was having with a friend today: Ruby on Rails pushed "convention over configuration" way too far, to the point of it being harmful to developers (understandable though, because DHH is actively harmful to society and all things good) 🌶️
