Casey newton (hard fork) also announced he was going back. and defended it on Oliver Darcy’s podcast. I am sympathetic that it does feel like the tech heads haven’t left twitter. Which is also an indictment of them podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/p...

I think one difference is that threads defaults to a very aggressive algorithm and pushes a lot of antagonizing crap into your feed. Twitter at this point doesn’t, if you go looking for it, like looking at replies it’s probably a different story. But when I open twitter once a month it’s not so bad.

One of the top Apple bloggers. I was disappointed to read his post about twitter as well. But have noticed that software devs really never left there.

They deescalate situations because no one starts shooting out of fear. And if they attempt to weaponize them the contract is over.

I’m sad that on Linux I wound up with functional AGI before I got a useful debugger (insert MS visual studio C++ for life bumper sticker) but that’s the reality.

I profiled code and identified slow bits and asked Claude to research multithreading parts of it, I asked it to simd /avx other hot loops. Something I’m really bad at even if I understand when it’s useful. 100 times a day I need to ask myself if it would be faster to just ask Claude to do things.

I “vibe” coded a hardware instancing multi viewport reinforcement learning OpenGL renderer this week. Probably spent $100-200 doing it, it would have been a month of painstaking work previously.

I never said you didn’t need to review the code and read it and see what it’s generated and ask it to refactor things. Vibe coating in the hands of a hobbiest is dangerous. I get it you wind up with the system that’s unmaintainable. But it’s a superpower for someone with lots of experience like me.

Yup, Claude can definitely help write much better code. Instant unit tests, finds memory leaks, automated refactoring.

The responses to the post seem to strengthen my sense that it’s a crazy echo chamber… “even stuff like find and replace is such a waste of computational energy that i don’t trust someone using it that way to be coding responsibly or efficiently.” Grep is bad you all…

I just realized that coding with AI is a lot like playing Warcraft or other RTS games. Give a command watch it play out. Give another, watch it go again, massively changes the flow of software development, but also the level of addiction.

Gedalia @gedalia.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
This feels a bit crazy, I guess new vibe contributors might be bad, but everyone I’m working with is having a massive productivity boost from Claude. It’s hard to imagine that few will be coding without AI assistance in a year or two.

Trump is asking the IRS for enough money to give every Jan 6th pardon recipient a million dollars. Just think about it. Everyone should be furious. And then realize they aren’t remotely angry enough.

This is a great essay on AI and science, I've been writing software professionally for almost 30 years, and AI has freed me from the nitty gritty that I've gotten tired of. But I've got decades of knowing what I want to do and why I want to do it. What the next generation looks like is up in the air
