Just finished the THORN Crawl rules layout, and I have the first region done. They will both go up on the THORN page for anyone that owns the game. I will continue to update the almanac there until the entire world is built. You get it all. 1 of 31 regions complete.

Finally made a little progress on the art style for my game today. It’s a fantastical mecha boss rush, including a metal soundtrack and challenging combat like Dark Souls or Shadow of the Colossus. Playtestable version coming very soon. #ttrpg #tabletop #gamedesign #darksouls #shadowofthecolossus

This one unfortunately gets cropped in the rulebook but I really love how it turned out.

The skulls I think are pretty cool as a unifying element, and they play up the doom metal vibe of it all too. Might try mixing in some animal skulls for variety.

This one in particular was fun to play around with. I was excited to be able to mix in some subversive religious imagery.

Probably the weakest but still not bad. This guy is some sort of golem, the Crystal King maybe.

One of my biggest problems with The First Descendant, in stark contrast to Warframe, is that it’s painfully generic. There’s just no style or anything really that stands out about the game’s setting, tone, visual style, etc. Way too many good looter games to put that amount of time into TFD.

A solo tabletop boss rush where you face two enemies in each combat: the terrifying boss and their equally deadly lair/environment. Each unique boss has their own map, formed and randomized with a deck of cards, similar to Carta. Lightens load on PC, heightens replayability. #tabletop #gamedesign

This is exactly how music synch is. My friend is really successful in that space and I asked him once if he was going to make changes based on a company’s feedback. He said “Absolutely f***ing not, they don’t even like the song. Changing it won’t make them like it anyway, so why should I?”

What TTRPG’s use music to help set mood? Bonus points if it’s original music made for the game. If there aren’t any/many, why do you think that is? More and more people are using sound at the table, and it’s a super strong, accessible way to set a tone, tension, and mood.
