Surprisingly there is little mention of the new Fontana Dam built in Tennessee to aid wartime aluminum manufacturing, which is why I wanted to look at these materials. As far as readers of this pamphlet knew, aluminum grows on trees and the energy and labour needed to smelt it is completely […]

The introduction defines the term in the way we'd recognise from Disney, as imagining anything and then engineering it down to reality. The rest of the pamphlet, however implies a much more wartime connotation: that aluminium supplies are Going To War but you can […] [Original post on social.coop]
Section of the pamphlet featuring an illustration of a man in a suit and a photomontage that includes an electric heater, a lightbulb, and a woman doing her hair. Text reads:
"When you do your 'imagineering' on the products you expect people to buy tomorrow with the War Bonds they're buying today, remember that the high reflectivity of aluminum for light and radiant heat will make your products stand out in the markets. Data and information on this characteristic of aluminum can be supplied promptly on request; the aluminum can be supplied just as soon as the needs of the war job are met."Section of the pamphlet featuring an illustration of a woman surrounded by an aluminium pail, pie dish, and saucepan. Below is a photomontage of aluminium foil cigarette packaging. Text reads:
"Today, of course, aluminium has gone to war. But indulge yourself in some "Imagineering" if the use of a non-toxic metal enters your plans, and don't forget there'll be lots and lots of aluminum available when Hitler and Tojo are licked."

It also makes sense why people (not everyday people but like energy policy wonks I guess) are talking about "green" ammonia and relating it to "green" hydrogen. If you're manufacturing ammonia using electrolysis (still very energy intensive and inefficient btw) then using that hydrogen gas to […]
