Some people use religion to deceive others into helping them acquire wealth and luxuries. Such people should be held legally accountable.

If a church doesn't have a food pantry, a soup kitchen or a closet full of clothes and blankets open to the public or isn't showing up at natural disasters to help, why does that church have a tax-exempt status?

New petition sponsored by Liberal MP Arielle Kayabaga calls for a new criminal offence banning recording / publishing video of vulnerable people in public, including those who are homeless, experiencing mental health crises or impaired due to substance use www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en...

Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:

• Houseless individuals and those that struggle with mental health are especially vulnerable to exploitation given their circumstances; • The law currently allows these vulnerable people to be filmed and posted on social media without their knowledge and consent often while experiencing crisis;

• This practice puts at risk the safety of this community by allowing those that may mean them harm, a tool to find them. This is especially relevant considering that this population that has a high number of domestic violence survivors and is at higher risk for sexual exploitation; • This act can increase stigmatization and of these groups by showing only snapshots of people suffering or in crisis, with no additional context or education; and

• This community is unlikely to have the resources to seek out civil remedies and criminal remedies against harassment and thus should be afforded extra protection.

We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to create a new provision in the Criminal Code that would make it an offence to knowingly record in public, a person the recorder knows is experiencing "prescribed circumstance of significant vulnerability" for the purposes of publishing or distributing that recording to the public. "Prescribed circumstance of significant vulnerability" include:

(a) experiencing homelessness; (

b) experiencing a mental-health crisis or other acute psychological crisis;

(c) experiencing significant impairment resulting from alcohol, drugs, or another substance; and

(d) experiencing another prescribed circumstance that substantially increases the person's vulnerability to exploitation or serious harm from public exposure.

What an excellent set of paragraphs here www.reuters.com/legal/govern...

Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate had previously faced rape and human trafficking charges in Britain related to three alleged victims, the Crown Prosecution Service said. A British judge issued a warrant for their arrests in January 2024. They have not appeared in British court to enter a plea to those charges.
Britain is seeking to extradite the brothers to face both sets of charges.

Joseph McBride, a lawyer for the Tate ‌brothers, denied that the brothers were a flight risk, noting that they had attended their required court hearings in Romania, where they have been under criminal investigation since 2022 on human trafficking allegations.
"Innocent men don't flee from justice. Innocent men lean in to justice because justice vindicates them at the end of the day," McBride told reporters outside the federal courthouse in Miami after a status conference before Louis.

One of the most heartbreaking things of been witness to in the homeless shelter system. Is the decline of health of senior citizens. Clearly need long term care, but with the shortage of spaces and waitlists. They can be in here for months, sometimes years. 😢
