Started by Steve Darlington in 1998, the #ttrpg webzine Places to Go, People to Be lasted 10 years in English but the French translators, @ptgptb.bsky.social have been going strong since 1999 and have just published their 1000th article, translations and original work. C'est une merveille!

My favourite thing was one of my colleagues at an all staff meeting being scolded by higher management for saying it wasn't safe to speak out. Thus making his point for him.

There was one under our front hedge which I dug seven times before it finally gave up. Most of the hedges in the street are infested with it.

In games where you can be hit with a metal 6 times without going down, it's already slapstick. The odd fumble or crit will liven things up.

We told my mum that the garage couldn't get the parts to repair her car since the last crash. She's 86 and now the money she'd spend on insurance goes on taxis instead so she's quids in too. And nobody else gets hurt.

Enjoying this #History course from Yale by English academic, Keith Wrightson. Every now and then he gets a glint in his eye and recalls the old county. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM6l...
The Black Sheep Brewery is a small brewery in that area which is very well known and they produce Black Sheep Bitter and also a most unusual bottled beer which is called Riggwelter, which needs explaining. It's a dialect word. A riggwelter in the dialect of this particular area of the north of England is a sheep which has fallen on its back and can't get up again. [lLaughter] This happens with sheep. They trip, they roll on their backs and then they lie there waggling their feet, [laughter] and the shepherd has to come and turn them up again. Well, that is — in the dialect of the area a sheep like that is riggweltered; it's a riggwelter, and they call this bottled beer Riggwelter [laughter] because if you consume it in unwise quantities [laughter] it has exactly the same effect. [Laughter] Anyway, I tell you this not to encourage you but to, you know — if you did happen to go to that part of England to warn you against the possible consequences. [Laughter]

I don't like beer but the meal I had in Prague came with a free pint and when I turned it down the waiter insisted and let me have a glass of any beer. So I chose one and enjoyed the look on his face when at the end of the meal I said it was the least disgusting beer I'd ever had.

The outcome is so dependent on the initial position and dice rolls that it's not a good game to play seriously. But we played it for fun earlier this year and it was just that. I think I can go another 25 years without playing it again.

I've mostly played more recently Trail but from playing Call at conventions it was very apparent that GMs really didn't know how to cope with clues hidden behind dice rolls and felt that any other way was some kind of cheating. They were seriously conflicted.
