This is rare: a mainstream journo - an ex-Murdoch one at that - acknowledging that "inequality and concentrated wealth" may be an issue for voters. Instead of the usual 'cost-of-living crisis' euphemism. If Shoebridge is having that impact already, it's a useful start to his leadership. #auspol

Inflation in August rose from 3.5% to 4.0%, which might make you think the RBA had a point in raising interest rates yesterday. The problem is that all of the increase was due to petrol prices.

Excellent question by Chris Kohler - will this rate rise actually do anything? Bullock says its not just about higher mortgages but it encourages people to save (oh my lord), also keeps house prices down so people don't feel as wealthy. But she says the most important impact is exchange rates
