the thing they don't tell you as a kid is that typing, writing, drawing, playing keyboards, and using a controller all use the same muscles and if that's the entirety of your work & play, those muscles are not going to like you very much after X number of years messed up tbh. not a fan

I ended up leaving the comic in pencil and treating it like a rough "proof of concept" where I'm really just practicing storytelling beats

This has really been on my mind lately as someone who fell into this and am currently kind of "stuck" in the research phase of the story (there are roughly 2 chapters out but it's been an inconsistent mess). I needed to see this today, thank you!

Good thread. People don't start creative projects anymore cause they think they have some big sweeping thing simmering in them. Then they start and realize making big things is a lot of work. Then it never gets done. Also because this thing is their first thing, they they're kinda mid at making it.

(Clem) A small update - I've been slowly chipping away at my senior thesis! I chose to leave it in pencil to save time and stress, and so far have finished 5 pages in addition to the original 9 pages! Drawn on 11x17 comic book board using a mixture of 0.5 mechanical pencil and Blackwing Pearls

a comic page without dialogue. The only text on the page are two quick notes in the margin that read "POV the Dark Lord gets dragged into some kid's petty drama" and "PROTECT LIZARDBOY AT ALL COSTS". Several numbers in the corner indicate how many minutes were spent drawing the page - 20, 25, 5, 25, 60, and 20

There are several notes in the margin that read: "ZERO CHOCOLATE RUN (although I did have a few chips and a piece of cheese, and raspberry leaf tea)." This is so true, it's why i plan on making my future comics in traditional pencil. it's so much easier to express something in that medium (and i somehow feel "closer" to it, like more intimate somehow). there's a significant element of vulnerability to publishing something unpolished, too

Accepting disability is always way easier said than done. I used to be angry at my own limitations and tried to push myself past them to no avail. It's a long and hard journey, but slowly I'm figuring out that I do things a bit easier when I gently coax myself.
