A small price to pay for a lifetime (the dog's) of unconditional love and loyalty. i have adopted a good number dogs (all rescues except for a couple) and when one has died i always think back on his/her life and feel that they had done much more for me than i had done for them. Carrots for Mika!

I've been back up to Chicago a couple times this year to see family and, even in the city, a decent variety of wildlife would show up on the back porch, especially if I put some birdseed out there. I was able to take these shots from inside the house thru a small opening in the window.

The frog in your profile banner looks like a species in the genus Dendropsophus, possibly Dendropsophus ebraccatus, what is commonly called an hourglass tree frog. If so, that particular species is all over my lagoon on rainy nights. Where did you see it?

Great post. Yes, photography, like all creative mediums, can be a healing experience. I focus mainly on wildlife photography and, while I come from a family of artists, I find my work to be too clinical and less creative and I've been trying to develop a unique artistic style, mostly unsuccessfully.
