This past weekend I had such an incredible time at Powerblouse (Miss Dee Ate made her stunning debut thanks to Juanita MORE!) and at the Castro Street Fair. It was so great seeing so many of you, and I’m so grateful for all of your support for my candidacy as your next District 8 Supervisor.

In San Francisco, we are facing a housing crisis. As District 8 residents and workers continue to be pushed out due to astronomically high rents, we must have a plan to build housing. Here is my plan.

020

Gary McCoy @garymccoy.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

In San Francisco, we need more affordable housing, support for our small businesses, funding for HIV/AIDS, and to ensure San Francisco continues to be a sanctuary for immigrants and a safe place for our trans community.

I had the best time at Cole Valley Night Market! So grateful I got to talk to so many of you and say hi to the goats. 🐐

The San Francisco League of Conservation Voters has always fought hard to protect our environment and advance sustainability. I am honored to receive their endorsement and look forward to working with them to fight climate change, increase public transit, and protect our natural parks and lands.

I am proud to earn the sole endorsement of the San Francisco Labor Council. Workers should expect their Supervisor to show up even before they ask, and to still be there long after the cameras leave. I will write legislation with labor at the table, not just for it.

I'm deeply grateful for the endorsement from the San Francisco Tenants Union. As San Franciscans, we must work together to expand affordable housing at every level, safeguard tenants, and strengthen rent control.

I'm proud to have earned the early and sole endorsement of the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club and early endorsement of the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club for District 8 Supervisor. I am honored, as this makes me the only candidate running in D8 for an open seat to earn support from both.

"Harvey Milk Democrats have always fought for the collective 'us' - for a city where everyone can thrive - and we are confident that Gary McCoy will continue that tradition by championing policies that put community, equity, and justice first."

For only the third time in the past 26 years, San Francisco’s two main LGBTQ Democratic clubs agreed on who should represent the Castro and its surrounding neighborhoods as the District 8 supervisor. This year, they coalesced around @garymccoy.bsky.social. www.ebar.com/story/167407

It was an honor and a privilege to help lead Alice through key moments for the LGBTQ+ community, including the MPOX public health response, major fundraising efforts, coalition building, and candidate support. Thank you for the early and sole support of my candidacy for District 8 Supervisor.

Castro Coffee Company has been a part of our neighborhood since 1987. Ken Khoury doesn't just sell coffee — he created a space for everyone in this community. Castro Coffee Company isn't going anywhere, except right next door. Congratulations Ken. We're glad you're staying. ☕🏳️‍🌈

Ten years ago, 49 people, most of them young, queer, and Latino, were killed at Pulse on Latin Night. Tonight we walked to Hibernia Beach and laid roses. We remember them, we hold their families close, and we carry them with us. Forever remembered, forever part of us.

Yesterday, I walked into City Hall and made it official. I'm running for District 8 Supervisor on the November 3rd ballot. This campaign is about our neighbors, our small businesses, our communities, and our future. Swipe to meet some of the team that's making it happen.

I’m proud to earn the endorsement of SEIU Local 87, the voice of our hardworking janitors. This endorsement reflects a shared commitment to dignity on the job and fair wages. It means standing with the workers who keep this city running and making sure they can afford to live here too.

And commit to working with everyone involved to find a resolution that allows them to stay in the Castro – and if the only resolution available to the Khoury family is a legislative one, I am in full support.

020

Gary McCoy @garymccoy.bsky.social · 25/06/2025

I join the overwhelming chorus in calling for continued advocacy in support of the Khoury family and their long-time 30+ years small businesses vital to the neighborhood…

120

Gary McCoy @garymccoy.bsky.social · 25/06/2025

Despite these challenges, the Khoury brothers’ businesses have long contributed to the vibrant corridor on Castro Street. The loss of these two businesses during the renovation of the Castro Theatre will only contribute to the empty storefronts in the neighborhood.

110

Gary McCoy @garymccoy.bsky.social · 25/06/2025

Both businesses are often bustling with activity – friends catching up over coffee and pastries or gossiping during a manicure. Castro businesses face the same struggles other neighborhood businesses encounter across San Francisco – vacant storefronts, raising rents, and rising costs.

As a long-time Castro resident and neighbor I’ve patronized our small businesses over the past 15 years, and both Castro Coffee and Castro Nail Salon are anchors in our community.

“What it [the city] did not do is tell anyone about any of this ahead of time. It did not reach out to skaters, it did not announce its intention to close down Dolores Street, it did not plaster posters in the area — or post on Instagram — warning people to stay away.”

SF shutdown of Dolores hill bomb overlooked detail: telling anybody

San Francisco has shut down rowdy events before, but it has usually told people, repeatedly, ahead of time. Not so for the hill bomb.
