We could have done that decades ago. Worker productivity has TRIPLED since the days of single-income families buying houses, taking annual road-trip vacations and putting the kids through college. 90% of the wealth created by that increase in worker productivity has been stolen by the oligarchs.

I'm an Air Force brat. Between ages 8-11, we were living off-base in Japan. If I didn't have homework and it wasn't raining, I wasn't allowed in the house until supper time. My parents didn't know or care where I was, and I didn't even speak the language.
