You could mean different things by 'ignorant nationalists', but just in case you're pointing a finger at the SNP, we accept that anyone who lives here and wants to be is Scottish.

August has been a washout so far here in the Highlands. Looking forward to a little sun.

If you've just received an AWS Billing Alert, it looks like there's an issue at their end. My heart rate is slowly getting back to normal.

I've been using Claude.ai Fable 5 for the last week, and been impressed. Today the US government stopped me (and you).

About 10 years ago I spotted that this 2.5 mile long Scottish Loch doesn't appear on Google Maps.

In the '80s Michael Moorcock wrote 'Dancers at the End of Time', where the few remaining people could magic up something trivial like a cup of tea, unaware that somewhere in the universe a star would die to pay for it.

Weird Tiktok on my account. Trump saying 'Make America Great Again', but preceded by what sounds like my first name. Could be AI personalised at source, or (even more scary) on my device.

Can anyone remember which is which?

Even if you ask them to add an arrow pointing at Shetland you get nonsense.

Today I have spent an hour trying (and failing) to get various AI models to draw a map of the UK which includes Shetland.

Watching a US stream of the Napoli match. With the air filled with smoke the system which replaces the billboards in the stream is struggling.
Screenshot of a football match with smoke from flares. The advertising hoarding at the side of the pitch is brighter than it should be and 'glitched' so that it's obvious the adverts are being added by the TV broadcasters.

There has been a trend on TikTok recently of users tagging videos as 'message to america', explaining to US folk how crazy things there look to outsiders. TikTok are now blocking it.

Listening to BBC Out of Doors: they mentioned the superstition of having to stir your porridge clockwise to avoid bad luck. But how did you know 'clockwise' before clocks? Well, in the northern hemisphere the shadow on a sundial travels in that same direction and was known as 'sunwise' or 'deasil'.
A rounded wooden stick about an inch thick, having been turned on a lathe. It's used in Scotland for stirring porridge, and is known as a spurtle.

Don't like to pollute this place but even if you discount trolls and people voting for a laugh, there must be many on Musk's platform who really believe this.

Some plastic litter found in a field near Alloa, Scotland. Presumably over 53 years old as it uses pre-decimal currency. Still in near-perfect condition with the text all legible. www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/c...
Old, slightly squashed washing up liquid bottle. Has "3D off" marked on it reflecting UK pre-decimal currency which was phased out in 1971.

Whilst at the Iran (RHD) Pakistan (LHD) border, it really looks like Pakistan just doesn't care.

But getting back to China, here's the ludicrously complicated interchange between Hong Kong and mainland China, so complicated that Google Maps just gives up.

A simpler crossover is on the border between Brazil (RHD) and Guyana (LHD) where the road splits on the Guyana side with one lane taking a bridge over the other.

Did you know that whilst most of China drives on the right, in Hong Kong and Macau they drive on the left? Which is why this interchange exists.

Miserable, damp day in Inverness this morning so I set off inland to escape the haar, for a cycle and a picnic. This is from the dam at Loch Vaich - not a bad spot for lunch.
