Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 15/09/2026As to how it's integrated into teaching programming ... that's the current $1B question in education. You have to reinvent everything. I'm glad other people are trying to figure this out 😅 000
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 15/09/2026Access to more expensive models is very limit in the low-cost personal plans. Large tasks will eat your 5h-window budget really fast. Which makes it hard to learn how to properly scope bigger tasks. But you should probably start small anyway when you use these things, so no biggie. 100

Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 15/08/2026ha, if only you had called it “Java is a terrible mess and I will make you suffer for 3 hours _with AI_” 🙈 090
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 10/08/2026If your workflow is LLM-heavy, I have no quarrel - if you invest in a particular project building dedicated context files, skills, etc, it’s another way of putting in the work. As for drive-by, again, only if maintainers agree to it :) 000
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 10/08/2026I think it also applies to other projects. LLM-generated code is fine! And if maintainers accept big contributions without prior discussion, that’s fine too! (but don’t do it if they don’t want that) Mostly im saying: for becoming a long-term contributor, that’s not the way to go. 100
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 10/08/2026if this is just driving coding agents, I can do it just as well as anyone else - describing the problem should be more than enough. But if it’s about contributing, you should probably take the time to build that context for yourself. We get too many drive-by PRs and we have to prioritize them. 100
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 10/08/2026I disagree - a fix is not enough. Engineers works within constraints. I If my window leaks too much air and you seal it shut with silicon, it fixes the leak, great! But I won’t be able to open it again, not so great. the maintainers’ job is to have that context - please make it easy for us! 100
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 08/08/2026If you're doing this for credibility, I'm not sure that's going to work long term. Want to contribute? Use the project, test the limits, find bugs, report them, suggest improvements. Show that you've got skin in the game and are ready to put in the work - we'll happily take your contributions :) 030
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 08/08/2026Y'all are creating a lot of noise, and not doing _any_ of the engineering work. When we say "not like this because <reason>" and get an LLM-generated fix within 5 minutes, what have you learned? Have you furthered your understanding of the project so that the next PR is better? 262
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 08/08/2026Being an Open Source Contributor™ has long been perceived as a badge of honor. But today, people pointing their LLM at some random issue that they have no interest in, without reading or understanding the output... Some of it gets merged, so what is "I contributed to X" worth anymore? 190
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 29/07/2026its stabilizing on the auth front. There are still challenges, but most evolutions in the spec are related to specific corner cases in oauth and implementation guidelines. on the spring side, quite a lot is covered by using Spring Security which already has solid OAuth support. 010

Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 08/07/2026But techies who decided to leave X mostly moved to bsky, and sadly Mastodon never drew a big tech crowd. Anyway I’d rather have a much much smaller community than support X 🤷 020
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 08/07/2026My experience of Mastodon has been that there are very small pockets of active users and the discussion is good, but not frequent. The only truly vibrant community in my feed was centered around politics. But hey, you've convinced me to give it another go :) 130
Daniel Garnier-Moiroux @garnier.wf · 08/07/2026Nothing warms a maintainer's heart more than "I ran into this myself. I diagnosed the issue. I submitted a fix to the upstream library you depend on. I tested the fix." Hat tip, sir! github.com/modelcontext... 141
