I was telling a friend that I'm not writing anything at the moment & she asked me if I was blocked. I don't know if I think of it as blocked. Next year will be my 20th year as a published author. If I always had something to write every day for 20 years, that would be kind of weird, wouldn't it?

This year has been all about developing my craft as a storyteller. I now have 4 of these one-man musicals. They are, I think, unique in the way they use music to tell these stories. I am now looking for new opportunities to put on these shows.

I've seen a lot of music this summer, but the finest musician I saw was Jalen Nganga. I've seen him twice (Latitude & Victorious festivals) & both times he blew me away with his seemingly effortless skills on guitar, piano & stunning vocals. Worth checking out.

Today I performed my show twice for large KS1 audiences at a local school, partly to rehearse for Saturday's big show. It's interesting though. With a public audience, you're trying gee them up. With a school audience, it's more about geeing them down. The puppets created high levels of hysteria.

Today, as usual I was strumming a ukulele as I walked home. A man stopped me to tell me how much he liked the sound. He asked me to strum again & then he improvised a song about God over the chords. I'm not religious myself but I loved every aspect of this encounter. This is the London I live in.

Yesterday I took The Ministry of Mini Musicals to the park. I made up songs about football, unicorns, people I met, a march in support of refugees (including the recently elected Mayor or Lewisham), bikes (incorporating the bicycle bells). Made some money. Made new friends. Filmed none of it.
