This is a line from a BBC article on this story. "Defensive" strikes is just pure propaganda and the official US government line, not a factual statement. It's exhausting to even attempt to complain about this.
A line from a BBC News article reading: "The base shares a long history with the American military, and has recently be used by US warplanes as a staging post for defensive strikes on Iran."

Since this is going around thought I'd do mine although this is extremely spur of the moment and in no particular order. Also Theme Hospital is probably No. 10.

I don't remember seeing this picture from 2017 during the infamous incident when Donald Trump looked directly at the eclipse without eye protection, but this picture from later on makes it look like he, Melania and Baron are about to be abducted by aliens.

This is genuinely quite scary tbh. This absolutely is going to lead to excess deaths. Reminder the previous all-time high June temperature in the UK is 35.6c, set in 1976.
Weather forecast from the Met Office for the coming week, predicting temperatures to reach 40c on Wednesday.

This is my favourite David Hockney painting, in part because it's the one my parents had a print of in our house growing up. The way Mr Clark's feet disappear into the rug, the separation between the two of them, the way the cat (real name Blanche) is looking out of the window. #DavidHockney

Starmer's position is surely completely untenable. This is just ridiculous.

He's done it. On Easter Sunday, his flat out most deranged tweet yet. Praise be to Allah indeed.
Truth Social message from President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Reads as follows: "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin' Strait, your crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP."

How's it going Peter? Dignity still intact is it? This from an email he sent after his sacking as Ambassador.
Text from an email Peter Mandelson sent to Mark Power at FCDO on 17th September 2025. Excerpt reads; "My chief concern is leaving the US and arriving in the UK with the maximum dignity and minimum media intrusion which I think is to the advantage of all concerned, not least because I remain a crown/civil servant and expect to be treated as such. How is the FCDO assisting in this?"

According to Electoral Calculus this would result in a Hung Parliament with a Reform/Tory coalition still on the cards. But I imagine a few points in either direction could create a really different result.

This was very funny, because the judge technically has to say this (because the case is whether or not the defendents broke the law, not whether they were justified to do so), but the jury overruled him anyway.
Snippet from an article about the Palestine Action trial.

"During the trial, a juror asked whether they were allowed to acquit because the defendents genuinely believed that they were destroying weapons to prevent their use in genocide.

The judge's response was "no."

Multiple showings of that god awful Melania documentary are on at my local cinema but every showing is sold out, including one at 2am in the morning. Nothing suspicious about that!

One of my more small-c conservative views is that we need to ban cars completely from most town centres in the UK. Nearby me, both Wantage and Marlborough have beautiful historic centres which are absolutely ruined by having car parks slap in the centre of them.

Hitherto unknown levels of sycophancy.
Quote from The Guardian: "In an opening gambit, Starmer produced a letter from King Charles inviting Trump to visit the UK. "It's an invitation for a second state visit, this is really special, this has never happened before, this is unprecedented," Starmer said. "He's a really great gentleman," Trump mused.

These three paragraphs are just gold; honestly credit to District Judge Ikram.
Quote from The Guardian:

"He was then heard saying: "You won't threaten your MP again will you, fucking soft lad."

The sentence was met with apparent shock in the courtroom, Richard Derby, representing Amesbury, asked the judge: "Is that an immediate sentence?" The judge nodded, replied "yes" and left the courtroom.

Derby then requested the judge come back into court as he wished to make an application for bail for Amesbury, pending an appeal against his sentence. Ikram returned to court, sat down, paused briefly and said; "Application refused."
