i feel like we hate on cliches too much, and use the word cliche as an insult or a con in terms of writing but things are only cliche because they're good, they've only become cliches because people love them so much, i don't mind cliches if they're done well enough honestly

clowns don’t do it for me, don’t believe in demons, aliens aren’t alien enough, slashers are quaint. ghosts have too much agency, most monsters are silly, vampires all dress like sales guys. body horror falls back on the gross-out, zombies are passé. cosmic is like “what if you saw something weird”
