Happy to participate on a panel regarding inclusive, indigenous and international trade with the Indigenous Peoples Economic and Trade Cooperation Arrangement (IPETCA) folks, today! Many thanks and greetings to all our indigenous cousins and international partners attending today (and tomorrow).

Proud to stand up and support indigenous self-determination in the face of outside interference. To the Pacheedaht First Nation, we send our wholehearted support. To everyone, please take the time to acknowledge and accept that the decision-making of each Nation is their *own* responsibility.

Mount Underwood Fire Update: Fire continues to burn. Road between Port Alberni and Anacla/Bamfield and beyond closed. Power will be out for *at least* 72 hours, if not more. Visitors asked to refrain from traveling to the territories to allow for priority traffic via Cowichan which remains open.

Not for nothing, but would it not make sense for First Nations and indigenous organizations to raid the lists of laid-off federal scientists, administrators and managers? We rely so heavily on federal resources, getting direct help from former employees seems to be logical. #cdnpoli #bcpoli #fnpoli

We need to think beyond protecting what we have and regard risk as opportunity, too. To be obsessed with not-losing is as much an artifact of a colonized mindset as anything else we speak a lot about in our circles. I choose to be cautiously optimistic. Huu-ay-aht will do its part. ... 3/3

If indigenous leaders can put aside zero-sum thinking and political point-scoring, we have a real opportunity to help create value in (thus far) globalized markets and *share in it*. That sounds better than fighting over limited governmental budgets, eh? We'll need this to catch up and keep up.

For what it's worth, I think the GTD bills passed by BC and Canada are more an opportunity than a threat. They are pieces of enabling legislation that, like the Declaration based laws, depend upon their implementation through subsidiary workplans and regulations. ..1/ #C5 #cdnpoli #bcpoli #fnpoli

I've been using NotebookLM by Google lately, and I'm finding it quite compelling and potentially a powerful tool. I will try it to keep abreast of all the different elements of my work in local and tribal government. Thanks to the Google employee who I met at a conference for the recommendation!

I remember getting Mortal Kombat 2 for the SNES in 1993 for like $90 Canadian. That's like $200 in today's money. I do not have sympathy for folks complaining about the cost of first party switch games being $80/90... Come on, you know Mario Kart World will be worth it, right?

It just strikes me as odd that Alberta and Saskatchewan feel the way they do on the aggregate when their populist Prairie reformer faction took over the major conservative party. It's the progressive and centrist electorate who aren't represented there.

And we can start to tackle the internal FN issues with more accountability if there's a less-apprehensive journalist presence in our affairs. It must be hard to be a non-FN journo very trying to report on hard issues inside FN communities and avoid accusations of prejudice.

Timely and accurate reporting of indigenous/First Nations news in Nuu-chah-nulth territory has been of high benefit for years, we are lucky to have Ha-shilth-sa on the West Coast. More journalists helps create a landscape where citizens of our Nations could get good information to make good choices.

Even if this is true, and I admit that there's an outside bet that it might be, the anomalies are not the point. It was Brodie's quip about "my truth, your truth, my grandmother's truth" that revealed that she does not care about testimonials, even if they number in the thousands. #bcpoli

What folks aren't talking about with this whole Brodie thing is that it's not necessarily about the potential graves, but rather the implication that the thousands of testimonials can be dismissed because there is no hard evidence of death and abuse. When there are that many, it hardens up quick.

... there is no guarantee that they will go down after industrial capacity is added due to burning bridges and sending Canada and Mexico into the arms of Europe and possibly other trading partners. Of which is likely the best choice for both countries if US leadership is not dependable as an ally.

To target your neighbours and allies first, however, makes little sense outside of spectacle. To do it in a way that discounts the comparative advantages of those neighbours shows that this President is not as serious about a post-globalized world as one might hope. Not only will costs go up...

But I also think he fell for the all-too-common blunder that the most direct route to the objective is always the best choice, and that's rarely the case in a geopolitical world riven by geography and demographics. Tariffs are meant to be targeted long-term policies to shore up certain industries.

What do I really think? I think this US President is a zero-sum thinker. I think he is not capable of thinking outside of zero-sum in a world where we're almost never at the edge of possibility graphs. I think he grabbed on to the idea of re-industrializing the continent, and that's a good idea.

The number of fathers who will die or kill for their kids and the number of fathers who don't bother putting in the tedious daily effort is near-perfect 1:1... It's not surprising that so many don't draw parallels there, but perhaps still very disappointing.
