Britain's favourite butterfly will certainly not be the speckled wood - but it is mine! britainsfavouritebutterfly.co.uk/butterfly/sp... Speckled Wood

⚡New paper! ⚡from my student @ellenknight.bsky.social on how to integrate new land cover classes into ecological models so we can predict the #biodiversity impacts. We illustrate this for UK agroforestry & pollinators 🐝🌳: tinyurl.com/3yp26eu5 @ukceh.bsky.social @uor-research.bsky.social @nhm.org

Integrating new land cover classes into ecological models to predict their biodiversity impacts
As the need for sustainable agroecosystems gains recognition, new land cover classes are increasingly emerging in temperate landscapes. Process-based …

Nice posters from two of my current PhD students at #BES2025 😀. 🌳🌾🌳🌾 @ellenknight.bsky.social 's is on pollinators in silvoarable systems. 🦋 Rosa's is from her previous research on butterflies. Check them out!

Today I had the pleasure of presenting my second PhD chapter at the International Society for Ecological Modelling conference (Kashiwa, Japan). This work focused on modelling landscape-scale responses of pollinator species to national parks and their surrounding areas. This work should be out soon!

Yesterday we were out catching and marking pollinators on three rooftops, two of them more than 10 stories high, to see if they were travelling between them! #PollinatingLT

Here's a short video (in English) all about my two years of research on wild pollinators in France's newest national park! We're talking protected areas, forest networks, roadsides and legislation. Hope you enjoy! 🐝

Pollinator surveys are off to a flying start in Parc National de Forêts! This year I'll be studying functional and taxonomic turnover along gradients from core zones to buffer zones, with a particular focus on road verge habitats. I also have a very special helper this year - Sammy the cat!

Yes, because what's holding the US back from greatness is our lack of "wood independence". 🙄 Logging these >100 year old trees will be disastrous for climate.

Trump administration orders half of national forests open for logging
An emergency order removes protections covering over half the land managed by the U.S. Forest Service as the president aims to boost timber production.

Thanks supervisors @deepasena.bsky.social, Mike Garratt and Joann Sy for joining me in France's Park National de Forêts this week. We presented results from 2024's work on woodland pollinators, shared future ideas with the park and visited some field sites for this year's study. (+slow worm!)

You too can be a citizen scientist! Dr Chris Wyver @chriswyver33.bsky.social explains just how easy it is to get involved with the #FruitWatch 2025 project. Just take a photo of a fruit tree in your area that is starting to bloom and submit it to fruitwatch.org. 🌸

Had a good time at the Pollinating London Together @pollinatinglt.bsky.social AGM in London last night with Joris and Konstantinos. And made it onto the report! Great to see all of PLT's achievements in conserving urban pollinators so far.

Did you know the violet carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea) is one of the largest bees in Europe? These pollinators are more commonly seen in the warmer regions of Europe but can occasionally be found in the UK too. Photo by @gallenbees.bsky.social
