I'm salty about a card when it ruins whatever plan I had and I either didn't know anything like that existed, or didn't realize that was a vulnerability my deck has and I don't have answers to it. So it's less to do with the card itself, and more to do with how bad at the game I am that day.

The question there more becomes why *would* a non-aligned super intelligence "solve alignment" or "created an aligned AI"? If you could rely on it to do that, then... that is the solution to alignment. (As mentioned before, I'm skeptical that alignment is even possible at all, given humans' record)

That is a source of hope to me, though in the US, trusting in the current government to not endanger the public, especially via regulation, is... not where I'd *like* to be relying on for my source of hope. Luckily the rest of the world exists, so I'm holding out hope there, lol

solution to all "malevolent genie" style problems, except with LLMs, we've also sacrificed specificity, given that they work by randomness, rather than actual code. The "why assume winner takes all" is essentially the basis of the intelligence explosion concept (used to be "AI foom" because silly)

definitely heard pretty detailed responses to that seem reasonable to me on. "Alignment" is a hard problem because humans aren't even aligned with each other (see: politics) and AIs tend to solve problems in fundamentally alien ways. Basic alignment would basically be like having a generalized

Generalizing quickly is seen as an extrapolation from existing capability growth, though I'm hopeful that we're at a real plateau now. Generation of knowledge I agree on, though it seems like the same "limitation of physics" problem as your last point. The alignment questions were what I've

actually capable AI system could intentionally generate exploitable defects and then use those to essentially do anything that company is capable of doing.

If AI were actually capable, I think being integrated into the coding flow of most companies would effectively let the AI "take over" those companies. I work in software, so my real concern is that it makes everyone lazy and get dumber, so we stop doing things like "make computers secure", but an

do feel like they have entry level answers. The last question does feel like one of the stronger reasons to doubt, to me, but for, say, "why do we assume humans would give it control of things"... just look at every corporation trying to shove AI into all of their employees' jobs.

As a strong AI doom skeptic who thinks the current moment of doom is a combination of marketing (look how capable we are, we could doom us all) and creating excuses for its weaknesses (our AI didn't improve because we had to stop for everyone's good, not because we couldn't improve), most of these

(I kept reading several things in the sub-genre that spawned from his story of "rational fiction" because some of the other works were interesting and good, so I know much more than I want to about that whole cohort of weirdos. He's consistently been a polarizing figure, even within the group.)

For more fun facts, he definitely enjoyed writing fiction, and his writing did not improve despite doing it a lot. But... it is all human writing, and he has been on the anti-ai train since well before any of the current LLMs even started. But also, he's pals with Peter Thiel, so...

As someone who was into it at the time, I think one of the main appeals what that it was my first introduction to the concept of a fix it fic, combined with my own lowered standards for fanfic writing quality. Luckily I managed to avoid ever going through a Rand phase, and my standards gone up, lol

The actual problem there is NCLB and how it forced schools to lower standards or else it would defund them, a thing that is definitely equated with achieving higher standard outcomes (it is not). Unions advocate for people to not lose their jobs due to circumstances out of their control.

It still seems like skill degredation is going to remain the biggest unanswerable harm. Best case scenario, the code stops being slop garage, and everyone in the industry has now turned their career into a subscription service, and every business is held hostage by LLM providers.

You already mentioned impossible/beyond so I assume you've tried it, but I really like the Beyond Steak Tips for burritos and other Mexican foods. They do need to have a bit of taco seasoning tossed with them when they cook, but with that it's near perfection for me.

...that does something and that the non-technical user actually runs ever again after their session ends? I'm significantly more skeptical of that. I think most of the people doing that... would have very likely been the same type of person who would have made a script by hand before too.

I question whether there actually are many more non-experts writing (or even generating) bespoke software than before. If you consider every garbage bash script or python script that Claude generates to "read" random documents "writing bespoke software" then maybe, but like creating a .py file

Because python wasn't installed by default and it isn't at all readable to start. Instead what we had before was a million people bashing out javascript toys for random automation tools. I've taught many people programming, and nearly everyone who was even vaguely interested picked it up quickly.

At the time, HP felt like one of the first series of books that was a full novel targeting children, when the equivalent "popular" books were thinner serials (ie Goosebumps). (Whether this was actually true or not, I couldn't say, but the first book or two did seem unique at the time, as a child)

Do you leave the plugin installed when you're logged into your creator account, though? It looks like they are essentially getting real numbers for your videos and prioritizing those known real counts (for your videos) but using that for all users of the plugin, not just your creator account

Looking at their GitHub, if you have it installed and view your own videos, then your videos will keep that more accurate count because YouTube returns dislike data for video uploaders, and they prioritize actual data (ie what your dashboard sees) over the extrapolated data, when available

Yeah, though I'll also add to that that... I'm not sure younger me's priorities were necessarily better/right, either; my career significantly improved and my life is much more comfortable/enjoyable once I was more regularly medicating, but I'm not sure if I could have been convinced of that earlier

As someone who went in and out of taking my meds (just ADHD, not on the spectrum, so that's a difference), there did need to be a level of intrinsically valuing those things, especially when the personality shifts between my medicated vs not self was fairly apparent. (Productive vs creative, often)

Presumably doctor/patient confidentiality would/should prevent this? I wouldn't want someone from the Trump admin to be able to barge in while any Dem politician is visiting any doctor, and start harassing them or attempting to declare them unfit for service.

Luckily (for the rest of the Internet, crypto is irrelevant), quantum computers are still solidly in the realm of marketing hype and theory, since the numbers involved in doing things like this report are all "at least 5 years out".
