I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

I've seen a number of games use a second, much smaller die, as a form of advantage. Iirc Shadow of the Demon Lord and Weird Wizard both use it, and I feel like I've seen it done that way on other places as well. Though, outside that? I don't believe I've seen much mixed dice size rolls.

The unfortunate reality is that sometimes the only available time for the group is a Sunday morning where I'm barely awake and everyone else wants to play dungeons and dragons 5e

I think this is true, but to an extent it's a product of people's environment. My time and schedule are *tight*. I'd love a relaxing narrative RPG with tea and crumpets on a Thursday afternoon and a beer and pretzels dungeon crawl on a late Friday night.

I have four types of TTRPG characters: * The Quiet Pragmatist * The Lawful Evil (no one else knows) * The Maximized Quirk * The Colorful Weirdo

Running a TTRPG adventure that you wrote is the polar opposite of 'Death Of The Author'. 'The Author Is In The Room And They're Trying To Kill You.'

Unfortunately, felt hard over here. This is something I'm trying hard to work through this year. People should feel free to let me know if they want to collaborate with me!

Currently thinking about my creative work up until now because actually the drive to be a one-person cottage industry that's expected to go toe to toe with the big guys in terms of content and production quality is all big one act of self-harm. And yet this often feels like the norm in indie TTRPGs.

Let me know how it is. Weird toolkit utility programs like that are my jam, but the expensive ones often have to sit out of my radar for a bit before I can afford to chunk the wallet for it 😅

That's fair! I was not a fan of the v6 playtest, but it also felt like it broke enough molds and sacrificed enough cows that I'm hopeful that it's a passionate team rather than a corporate one. They very well may listen to feedback and make something even better at the end of the day

Yeah, I felt like this was coming between the playtest for v6, the WoD collab with DND, & Renegade moving towards a unified Hasbro/WotC ecosystem with the death of the Essence20 system. I don't think this is going to bode well, but I genuinely hope that the new WoD team handles the IP with passion.

Imagine this supported at a systemic level. 🤔 A game that encourages passing your character to another player after death, granting them a brief respite and amnesia. It'd require an active community, but could be fascinating. What'd a stranger do with my named nonmagical sword? My sack of rats?

Similarly, in high lethality RPGs, I like thinking about what happens to characters who DO survive it all. When can they retire? What do they do when they retire? What must they do to ensure the evil scheming DM stops interfering with their life after they've scraped through everything to survive?

This is something I've always kept in my back pocket but never seen much conversation around. I first saw similar with the GLoG community and I've considered designing something similarly awesome. Death should not be the finite end of a character. They leave behind things and people and memories.

Plus, I discovered the first order came through on my new (janky) webstore, and it was sizable enough to cover my website fees for the next year. Planning on using that for leftover Kickstarter stock. I've got a metric fuckton of dice for curious folks That's all up on my website at gageberry.com
Custom scented DCC dice. A tube is laid on its side alongside a d20, d5, d4, d14, d12, d3, d%, d16, and d10

It's been a good morning! Woke up to find that someone had dropped an extremely flattering review of my free gamejam RPG on itch, Dead Psychics Society (a weird Carved From Brindlewood type of thing I tossed together). If you're curious, I've got that posted here: sironyx.itch.io/dead-psychic...

How much mechanical weight can one die carry before the abstraction stops being useful?
000
W. Gage Berry @gageberry.com · 30/09/2026
Design problem I keep circling: If a zombie RPG is about replacing your own ruined body parts, I really want each limb to have a resource die that degrades through use. But if that same die also determines how good the limb is at doing things, suddenly every arm is mostly a math decision.

This was a very illuminating piece. I received it by email about three weeks ago, and it caused me to rethink my own cycles of creative burnout. I'm feeling a lot more comfortable splitting my focus and taking my time with individual pieces of work, here and there. Thanks

Jesus Christ. I can up you though, many a time I have opened the freezer to find my mother has left a large jar with an absolutely massive spider or other creepy critter just chilling amongst the food. It doesn't matter how much I protest, the jars continue to appear.

as someone with little to no ttrpg experience before running into girl frame last year, the idea that "GM" and "player" are fully separate groups has always completely baffled me. sure, the GM may be doing things differently to the rest of you, but you're all still playing the game, are you not?

Absolutely. While an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, knowing that both are actively available and supported means that people can more comfortably play, and perhaps explore topics that they would be less comfortable doing so otherwise. There's an undeniable need for both at the table.

This is incredibly true. Sometimes the little phrases are helpful, but so often do they turn out to mean the same thing as another phrase, or it sounds similar to another but actually means the opposite. Often, the best you can do is read why they selected their little phrases the way they did.

Oh man, that sounds awesome. I love a good Greek tragedy, but I can't even begin to imagine what your final product is gonna look like, keep me updated on it cuz I'd love to read it! I'm pulling inspiration for my pitch mostly from Akira, heist movies, and a small touch of Resident Evil (2026)

Honestly a really fun space to explore. I've always enjoyed when RPGs have space for domain level play, even if it isn't a focus and this seems like a natural way to lead into that type of design concept. I do think thieves should have a bit more going on though! Thieves guilds need depth in play.

There is no singular RPG for everyone, though I'd like to think everyone has an RPG that works for them, they just need to find it.

poetry is so difficult I don't think I will ever understand it, but it seems to obviously have kinship with beautiful proofs or well-written law/rules texts. something about the weight and precision of the words, I think

Thinking of writing a solo map-making #ttrpg Would it be too much to track damage by how many times you've been prompted to snap your pencil in half? Or is that just right for themes of despair and destruction?
