In the heart of the Appalachian mountains, something wicked lingers in the woods. Olive grew up running barefoot through the trees without fear of what might be lurking. But when the woods begin to devour anything that encroaches with ruthless hunger, and a mysterious man who claims to know both the cause and the cure appears at Olive’s door, she may have to face Death for the third (and final) time. There were three rules in the Dark Tropics:

The Witch must remain locked up at all times.
And do not, under any circumstance, resort to magic.

After his parents’ brutal murders, King Shadow hungers for revenge on the rival royals responsible. But when their daughter, Haven, ascends the throne—and becomes a threat to his life and kingdom—he secures a treasonous bargain with the Witch, the Dark Tropics’ ancient enemy, for a lethal love potion to defeat Haven before she strikes.

To activate the curse’s fatal effects, Shadow must convince Haven he’s in love with her, all while concealing his crimes in a kingdom where magic use carries an automatic death sentence. However, when truths unveil and forbidden desires deepen, the price of vengeance becomes inescapable.
