If someone switched my walk-up music to Lee Greenwood there would be trouble
In his first at-bat since becoming an American citizen, Cincinnati Reds slugger Eugenio Suárez got a new walk-up song.

When he stepped to the plate in the second inning, Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA" began playing throughout Great American Ball Park.

The music change was orchestrated by his teammates after Suárez left the team earlier this week to take the U.S. naturalization test in Miami and ultimately passed to become an American citizen.

Wild to read this and think of practices under Pete Carroll, which were like a damn party.
Screenshot of two paragraphs with file photo of Lincoln Riley:
A full 11 days before the Trojans' Week Zero opener against San Jose State, requests to discuss the importance of this season with Riley and his interesting new defensive coordinator — former TCU coach and College Football Hall of Famer Gary Patterson — were denied.

Instead, USC's communications staffers shepherd a group of reporters from outside the sparkling new Bloom Performance Center onto the practice field. From there, everything is carefully managed from exactly where the media is allowed to stand to watch a little bit of stretching to what photographers and videographers are allowed to shoot. After a few minutes, the pack is led to the other side of the field and then quickly to the exit.

“Will the owner go to jail?”
Text of press release from Los Angeles Dodgers -

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a multi-year partnership with Kalshi, naming the world’s next generational trading exchange the Official and Exclusive Prediction Market Partner of the Dodgers.

Kalshi is the first federally regulated exchange in the United States that allows users to make live predictions and trades with others based on real-world events. This collaboration will display Kalshi-branded LED signage around Dodger Stadium. In addition, the partnership grants naming rights for the stadium’s Gold Glove Bar, which will now be known as the Kalshi 435 Club, referring to how far a home run ball would travel to land at the front door of the club. Fans will have access to Dodger-specific offers in the Kalshi app and exclusive on-site activations throughout the season in Centerfield Plaza.

“The Dodgers are always looking for innovative ways to connect with our fans, and Kalshi represents an exciting new category,” said Lorenzo Sciarrino, Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships, Los Angeles Dodgers. “We’re thrilled to begin this partnership and look forward to introducing new experiences that bring our fans even closer to the game.”

Said Adam Barrick, Head of Sports Partnership, Kalshi: "The tradition and success of the Dodgers have become part of Southern California's culture. We couldn't be more excited to partner with such a historic MLB franchise.”

“On behalf of Major League Baseball, I thank John Seidler and the entire Seidler family for their stewardship of the San Diego Padres. Continuing the legacy established by the late Peter Seidler, the Padres reached the Postseason four times in the last six years, energized one of baseball’s most passionate fanbases, and strengthened the Club’s role as a cornerstone of the San Diego community. We appreciate the Seidler family’s longstanding commitment to our National Pastime and their many contributions to the game.

Krukow will play out the string in this lost #SFGiants season but his lasting legacy from his final year will be providing an organizational spine to the Pride Night pitcher debacle.
Quote from San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow:

"I think when you're a player and you come into this environment, it's your responsibility to know just how sensitive this city is in regards to that cultural freedom and religious freedom, and just the way that you live your life," Krukow said on KNBR.

"And I think they were in for a rude awakening with the response, and it wasn't just from the gay community; it was from the Northern California community that supports the gay community."

Fell down a rabbit hole and geez, they make no bones about it.
Homes dot com description of North Limestone, a neighborhood in Lexington, Kentucky.
“Lexington’s art and cultural destination”

The North Limestone district — or “NoLi” — was once a historically Black community that produced one of the Kentucky Derby’s youngest winning jockeys. While the neighborhood declined during the second half of the 20th century, the new millennium has seen the community reborn as a center of art and progressivism. Trendy boutiques, restaurants and bars occupy the vintage brick buildings on the North Limestone thoroughfare. Walkers will also see nature- and farm-themed murals, rainbow-colored crosswalks and pride flags hanging from a few balconies. Other notable sites include the Greyline, an old Greyhound bus station now home to businesses like a vintage clothing store and a craft distillery recently relocated from California’s Bay Area. “There’s a lot of cute little shops and things that are trying to make a splash in that community,” says Ryan Camenisch, a Realtor with the Brokerage. “It’s kind of a ‘by the people, for the people,’ type of neighborhood. It doesn’t have some of the corporate money bigger neighborhoods in Lexington have. It’s got a little more homemade feel to it.”

This is sad. Southern Section Division II championship is as high-level a high school team can get…blowing it off for a showcase-related camp. There’s plenty of Baseball High Schools out there (Baylor Academy in TN., say) and ok fine whatever. Maybe a public school shouldn’t try to be both.
Screenshot from Twitter from Fred Robledo, Southern California News Group:

BREAKING: The Ganesha baseball team is expected to have several players missing for Saturday's game against Loyola for the CIF-SS Division 2 championship at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga, including star pitcher Logan Schmidt, an LSU commit who is expected to be a MLB first round draft pick, sources are telling me on the condition of anonymity.

Nearly the entire starting lineup will be at an out-of-state BPA (Baseball Performance Academy) camp that was previously scheduled, I am told.

Nearly all of Ganesha's baseball players are part of Ganesha's online line program, and also part of the BPA Academy.

Ganesha athletic director Don Cayer would not comment, other than to say they're scheduled to play on Saturday.

Ganesha coach Jared Sadler has not returned calls or text messages ....

Ganesha is expected to field a team for Saturday's championship against Loyola, but nearly all of the top players will be missing, I'm told.

Ganesha asked the CIF-SS if they could play on Friday, but was denied.

This is fluid. More to come.

MLB's unserious first proposal is arguably a tad more serious than its last unserious first proposal from August 2021, which proposed *lowering* the luxury tax threshold $30 million.
Major League Baseball proposed lowering the initial luxury-tax threshold and adding a salary floor in its first economic proposal to the Players Association for the next collective bargaining agreement, sources tell The Athletic.

The league and union met Monday in Denver, sources said, their first in-person meeting of these negotiations. MLB's proposal included a four-tier luxury-tax system, adding a new tier to the bottom of the current three-tier structure. The new initial tier would be $180 million, and tax rates would begin at 25 percent. The current system has the initial tier at $210 million with tax rates starting at 20 percent.

The proposed salary floor, which does not exist in the current CBA, would be set at $100 million.

Every time this recirculates I read the whole thing again and every entry has something that resonates.
2. Hunger Strike
Look, I know this is the most obvious Temple of the Dog song, even more obvious than Say Hello 2 Heaven which I almost went with instead. I know that half of the song belongs to Eddie Vedder, and that it’s effectively his debut as a rock star. I know this is the needle drop you’d use if you wanted audiences to understand that this next scene takes place in Seattle in the early nineties. And I also may as well admit I’m a gourmand who has never once starved myself in solidarity with the less fortunate, which makes the song’s premise morally superior to my whole deal. So stipulated! But the simple, ethereal guitar riff and the duet of Vedder’s grumbly baritone and Cornell’s majestic shriek get me every time. The two friends would periodically reunite onstage for this one; the last performance of Hunger Strike featuring both Vedder and Cornell was at a benefit show in 2014, and we’ll never hear its like again.
