Flagged to me on LinkedIn and sharing here because of its absurdity. I have encountered an example like it. Is this in the spirit of 'data availability'?! www.nature.com/articles/s41591-026-… Here is the original post […] [Original post on code4lib.social]
Data availability statement from an academic paper: "Access to deidentified participant data may be available to researchers who provide a statistically coherent proposal to the corresponding author, beginning 9 months after publication, for 36 months. By ‘statistically coherent’, we mean that the data requested might reasonably be expected to answer the question asked (either alone or in aggregate with other datasets) with a reasonable chance of statistical precision."

#Wildfires are terrible, wherever they occur. That's a given. But I find it curious that the recent #Cairngorms wildfire -- which remains ongoing and has been raging since 15 July -- has to date destroyed *25 sq km* of moorland and forest near Aviemore. It […] [Original post on code4lib.social]

Spinning the #jazz discs while working from home today. A mixture of classic Blue Note and new #BlueNote (Walter Smith III), and some soothing European sounds from the likes of Jasper Høiby's 3Elements on #Edition, Maciej Obara on #ECM, and QOW Trio on #Whirlwind & #Ubuntu.

Received this book as a birthday gift. It's a riveting read if you love music, jazz, saxophones -- or even if you don't love those things. Here's a copy at the Internet Archive: archive.org/details/devilshornstory… #jazz #saxophone #woodwind #books

This is a matter of policy and decided by organisations in advance. 'Behaviour' - Whether the bot demonstrates good or bad behaviour. This is determined according to rules and patterns and is determined in real time.

I love marmalade. It is another of my vices, alongside beer, liquorice, and pastries -- the Danish curse! 😀 Anyway, I received an utterly humongous jar of #marmalade at Christmas. I'm working through it but I don't think I'll consume it all before it expires […] [Original post on code4lib.social]

Scorching day in Glasgow today -- 29 degrees Celsius. Decided to visit Greenbank Gardens in the city's southside, which includes this beautiful statue, 'Foam'. #Glasgow #NTS #NationalTrust #art #sculpture
Picture of the plaque describing 'Foam'. Charles d’Orville Pilkington Jackson, the sculptor of the equestrian statue of Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn, created Foam, a bronze water nymph, for the Glasgow Empire Exhibition in 1938. Other mythical creatures at the exhibition surrounded the statue, all sold except for Foam, which Pilkington Jackson kept. After his death, the statue was moved to Greenbank, the nearest garden to Bellahouston Park, where the exhibition occurred.Picture of the statue, Foam, at Greenbank Gardens, standing in the centre of a pool of water.
