I have written a short piece in The Conversation about the video game Assassin's Creed: Shadows, which will be released tomorrow. The game is set in Sengoku Japan and has received strong online criticism for depicting a black samurai as a playable protagonist: theconversation.com/assassins-cr...

It is a great honor that my book „The Gods of the Sea: Whales and Coastal Communities in Northeast Japan, c.1600–2019“ has won the North American Society for Oceanic History (NASOH) John R. Lyman Book Award in the Maritime and Naval Science, Technology, and Environment category.
