Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 09/10/2026For those who don’t like the UK having a new MP who covers her hair when she’s not at home: I recently saw this great BBC Archive photo from 1946. Look at the man with his uncovered head, while to be respectable all the women - of all ages - had to keep their hats on. Indoors! 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Seriously - what is happening at @theguardian.com this morning? Thi sounds like a 10 year old wrote it. 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I HATE the way they’ve been designed to refer to themselves as a person. Ask a question such as ‘what is Google AI called?’ and the answers will correctly use the pronoun ‘it’ several times. But then comes a prompt for further questions: ‘If you want, let ME know…”. Why ‘me’? I call this deception. 120
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Every puffin-lover in the UK should go to Skomer, an island off the Welsh coast, at least once. You can walk on a path through the area where the puffins land and burrow, and they’re padding around a few feet away. Fabulous. Go in April to see them burrowing, or July when they fly in with fish. 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Absolutely. Even two years ago, the Guardian was reporting a huge rise in male crimes against women and girls on trains. 001
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Good grief, you’ve lost your mind. Go and look up rates of male crime compared to female crime. And then look up male grip and upper body strength compared to female. You need some facts in your life before you start making abusive comments, now reported. Here’s your first fact to get you started. 110
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Haha I’ve never seen this before! Reminds me of one of my Gran’s favourite albums! 000
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 18/09/2026And now even a sea shanty gig at Selsey RNLI has had to be postponed. The Selsey Shantymen do loads of charity fundraising, another group of decent people affected by this madness. 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 10/09/2026More RNLI related news: the Old Lifeboat Museum in Poole has had to temporarily close because volunteers there were getting abuse. The stupidity of the balaclava mob and supporters makes my head explode. Are they so twisted that they seriously get a dopamine hit from abusing museum volunteers? 173
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Oh look - George has just updated his profile within the last hour or so. I wonder whether all the pushback he’s getting, and the cancelled subscriptions, means he thinks he’s got to try to prove he’s a serious journalist. Too late, George. 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Mic, I’ve just discovered this detail - the ‘journalist’ George Odling recently joined the Times after a decade at the Mail. How am I not surprised. He started a Bluesky account last year but hasn’t kept posting. bsky.app/profile/geor... 2315
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Incredible post (though he does struggle with English…) from one of the balaclava “patriot” thugs. Ladies, are you bursting to get in the kitchen and make sandwiches for the lads? Rachel isn’t so sure! 040
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 25/08/2026No cheating. Share the last photo of the sky from your camera roll. 011
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 06/07/2026Washington Post opinion piece about how transgender activists fail to even attempt to build a bedrock of consensus and instead expect the public to just comply with extreme ideas. Backlash is inevitable. 071
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 01/05/2026A reminder. If you’ve got a local election in your area on Thursday 7 May, please go and vote. And remember to take ID with you. #localelections 100
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 28/04/2026Is this the sort of thing people want to see on Bluesky? I’ve obviously reported it. 3143
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 27/03/2026Sian, haven’t you seen the latest research from Germany into the phenomenon of teenage girls identifying as trans? Within 5 years almost 75% no longer identified as trans. And comorbidities (eg autism, other neurodivergence, mental health disorders, struggling to accept being lesbian) are common. 1181
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 21/01/2026If you’ve ever idly wondered why women are having to go to court to fight for their jobs when they are told they need to submit to trans-identified males, here’s a good article to read. (Written by a man, for those of you who can’t cope with female journalism.) labourheartlands.com/jennifer-mel... 033
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 21/01/2026My god, the details are so maddening. This was an incredibly dangerous and vile male prisoner - a 6 foot tall paedophile - that she was having to work with. And he was listed as male on his records. 1152
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 20/11/2025Excellent news: a Bristol venue that cancelled a British Jewish band’s gig in May, after intimidatory hassle from local anti-Semitic activists, has made a full and decent apology and is also taking good practical steps. The Equality Act applies to everyone, and is there to stop rabid activists. 020
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 02/11/2025Both of the perpetrators from last night’s horrendous train knife attacks are British men. 120
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 26/10/2025Actually, some asylum seekers can work, because they’ve been waiting so long for their claim to be processed AND they meet certain professional criteria. Nuclear scientists are on the Home Office’s shortage occupation list. 130
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 26/09/2025Haven’t you read the article? Nobody is being “excluded”. It’s just that the 5 founder/owners are women - and isn’t that refreshing and wonderful? I think it’s brilliant. But there are going to be many contributors, both women and men. One is Philippa Perry, wife of artist Grayson Perry. 150
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 01/09/2025This Sunday, 10.30am. Come and show the residents of this hotel that the small number of Wetherspoons patriots hanging around outside having a little ‘protest’ are not representative of Bristol. 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 28/08/2025I wonder if the people critical of misgendering will be happy with this sitting on the fence Guardian approach? Tbh I think it’s cowardly of the Guardian -why isn’t it sticking to its guns and using she/her pronouns and using the word woman? 030
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 24/08/2025Young green woodpecker having a drink in my urban garden. It visited a few days ago to hunt for ants in the grass, but till now I hadn’t seen it again since, so I thought that was a one-off visit. Glad to see it back. @britishbirds.bsky.social 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 12/08/2025I’ve had a juvenile green woodpecker in my garden for the first time ever this evening. It had a really good peck into the grass for at least 20 minutes - apparently their main diet is ants. Great to sit and watch one so close up. 030
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 08/08/2025Don’t be ridiculous. You’re just evading the point about this being a men’s rights movement. 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 08/07/2025Oh blimey! My favourite free weekend festival, Bristol Harbour Festival, is handing over one of its stages on the Sunday to the fox-basher and his grifting, unsuccessful ‘project’ plus a bunch of trans activists 🤦♀️ “A year of holding power to account” 😂 Good to know which stage to avoid, I suppose! 010
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 14/06/2025New mallard ducklings on the beautiful Uni of Reading lake. Such a gorgeous place and a stunning range of birdlife in and around the water. In the trees we saw and heard woodpeckers, song thrushes, wrens and many, many more. #14dayswild #30dayswild @unirdg-artcol.bsky.social @themerl.bsky.social 030
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 24/04/2025The UK figures showing a boom-bust cycle in recent decades, with peaks at 1990 and 2012, is interesting. The last rise and peak came at the end of the Noughties (and the 13 years of Labour government) when more people felt comfortably off. Governments treating people well is the best aphrodisiac. 000
Helen @futurestand.bsky.social · 10/04/2025A goldfinch in my cherry tree, on such a beautiful April early evening. 010
