What interest rate they are borrowing at is an important factor. Both are living beyond their means but russia is speed running economic ruin at their current borrowing rates (US's is creeping up too) russia will pay for this war for two generations, possibly longer depending on reparations.

I think you’re correct that’s what politicians are waiting for, it’s absurd. Apart from conscripts, troops are fungible. 10k North Koreans is a massive escalation and the response (basically, nothing) is left wanting. Minimum response - west stations troops in Ukraine in non-combat roles

That’s true and what russia is doing is horrible. OP asks the question, are russians advancing rapidly, and the answer is no. At their current rate of advancement, they will take 20 years to reach Kyiv and their entire population will be dead. Not sustainable for russia and it will get worse
