In the talk, Bruno explains that every Wi-Fi router measures how radio signals travel through a home. These measurements change when people move, breathe or type, and research shows they can reveal presence, activities and even identities without cameras or microphones.

🌐 This is what systemic risk mitigation at the Future Society Hub (University of St.Gallen) is about: building and stress testing the techno legal tools that decide whether platform accountability is real or cosmetic. futuresociety.ch 6/6

🛠️ If the official pipes are broken, researchers need other ways in (right side of the figure). So we built SOAP, an open source sock puppet auditing tool for recommender systems, published in ACM TORS. Paper: doi.org/10.1145/3795... Code: github.com/Interactions... 5/6

📉 The results: up to half of public content is missing from the Research APIs, up to 83% of metadata is stripped, and query caps make monitoring even a few feeds impossible. 4/6

🔎 Meta didn't catch 300+ paid ads with AI generated CSAM. A nonprofit with a spreadsheet did. The EU's #DSA was written so that catching this wouldn't depend on manual watchdog work. It gives researchers a whole toolbox (figure, left). #ChildSafety #AIGovernance #AI #PlatformRegulation

🚀 We're launching the Future Society Hub (FuSo). The most pressing questions raised by technology can't be solved within a single discipline. How should AI be governed? How do we mitigate systemic risks from digital platforms? What digital skills will people need? #AI #AIGovernance #AcademicSky
