Step 1: Opt everyone into AI automatically Step 2: Lower the barrier for entry to steal as much data as possible. Step 3: Take a nice long look around your own colon.

A still of the character Chihiro in the film “Spirited Away”. A character called No Face is offering her a pile of false gold that has been edited and overlayed with the logos of Claude, OpenAI and Grok. She is saying, “I don’t want any. I don’t need any.”

NEW ADVICE-FROM-LIEBER LIST! I've posted these tips as a thread before, but I figured it's about time I made it available as a single, shareable image.

MISTAKES I'VE MADE THAT YOU CAN AVOID
Don't be like me.
1. Don't trash your own work when complemented. In that context your self-deprecation is insulting someone else's taste! Just say thanks and change the subject. Maybe credit an influence?
2. As far as your readers are concerned, comics are drawn with a printing press or a monitor. Don't fetishize the original art or the tools you make it. Anything that gets the story told the way it needs to be told is the right tool for the job.
3. Don't use one job to audition for another. It's unfair to your collaborators and a betrayal of the reader to get flashy or sexy or explosive if the moment in the story doesn't call for it.
4. The important storytelling choices on a page can be worked out in thumbnails. Gesture, camera angle, framing, broad arrangement of tones-get this stuff right before you worry about anatomy, lighting, drapery, or facial expressions.
5. Some artists can put down a final inkline with no underdrawing, but that's because they're skilled and experienced enough to do all that underdrawing in their head. You probably aren't. Get your underdrawing right and save the masterstrokes for the masters.
6. What you're feeling while you work doesn't matter. What the audience feels when they read it does. You can be happy and still do a great drawing of someone in agony. You should understand what you're depicting. It's not necessary to experience it in real time at the board.
7. Get a fresh eye on your work. You never know when some accidental juxtaposition is going to completely change your intended meaning.
8. Don't let getting things 100% right keep you from getting things done. It's easy to get bogged down in research or prep sketches. Make a schedule at the start of a project so you know how much time you have. Do the best you can with the time allotted and move on. But...

Never forget that they had to spend trillions of dollars, build massive data centers, consume millions of galloons of water and insane amounts of electricity, just to kind of do what you can do better with your imagination and a cup of coffee. That's how envious they are of what you can do.

Digitally drawn comic with 4 panels. The first panel the white cat says "it's so hot today". The second panel it says "I'm sure it'll get colder next week". Third panel has a phone zoomed in with the hot weather predictions with the final line saying "get fucked". Fourth panel has the cat looking silently into the phone.

"Perfectionism" isn't a thing. Rephrasing it to "I am insecure on how this piece will come out" or "I am worried the client won't like it" will let you actually tackle the roots of your issues. Don't let yourself avoid healing by using a term that paints it as a virtue. 🙌

THE STOKELINGS HAVE ARRIVED! This is a collaboration with my community and friends. Special thanks to @semispri.bsky.social who really helped elevate the design and gave these little rascals some airtime on her stream. I couldn't be more happy with them. <3

Different designs of the "Stokeling," a will-o wisp-like creature with a piece of coal as a head. They are drawn in a cartoonish style and look like a blue spirit with a piece of coal embedded in their wispy head. They have a cute look on their coal faces. On the left is a small group of different stokelings in different colours, and the other designs are just different poses. One stokeling is very angry and has their middle finger up in the air while his colour is a bright red.

People like Kane and many many others that do care about human art and the creative process have been a beacon of hope while trying to navigate making art in this current climate.

CBS MORNINGS ON YOUTUBE (JUNE 4, 2026)

Interviewer: I read that you do not want to embrace Al.

Kane: Absolutely not.

For me the whole point of doing what I'm doing-art is a way of processing life. I don't see the value in outsourcing any element of that.

When I'm looking at someone else's project, if I see an element of the environment [where] they use generative fill or whatever to change something about the scene, it just shuts off the part of my brain that wants to know more about that world. Because I would assume if they're willing to make an arbitrary choice there, they could make an arbitrary choice with literally anything.

I launched an indie webcomic hosting platform several months ago that offered a free and a $4/mo paid plan. This was purely to cover the cost of the infrastructure. But in seeing it grow, I'm no longer worried about the cost. So yeah Webcomic Studio is now free. webcomic.studio
