#MusicChallenge 30 years of Ultra "Big Time." 1st listen. Forgot about this transitional album for Kool Keith with Tim Dog. Nothing too surprising here. Keyboard beats mostly by Kutmasta Kurt. The MCs are certainly outlandish but also entertaining. It's best when they team up like this one:

Glad you agree! He really made that tune into something else. 👊😎🎩🎶💥

I certainly feel all of that, just have struggled in practice. Good call on the Bluetooth speaker, that's a thought.

Fair enough! I eventually realized that I'm much better at buying vinyl than listening to it and I've never made much traction in changing the latter as a habit. We've been paying subscribers to Spotify for years so the annoyance is more subtle, ha.

It does. I use it less these days, but it's hard to fully pull (me and my wife) away from. More Bandcamp when possible.

Same here across the board. Thanks for the reminder!

Well, I was going to do just that, but then decided to check Spotify. Success! Also great - Always love a frenetic sax solo.

Nice one Mike! I bet that was a great show.

Ah! Commentary with a gently bubbling groove. Great stuff! 👌🤩🎸🎶🔊

A quick little banger! Love the rapid fire drums!

🙌🤩 Thanks. I am, but I'm definitely due a revisit!

Well, I think may have made a generalization on limited data points, so I'm probably not qualified either! 😅 Just seeing where those first collaborators (according to Google) came from, can't speak to why that is.

#MusicChallenge 25 years of "Bones" OST. 1st listen. Of course the ST for Ernest Dickerson's blaxploitation horror film starring Snoop is ridiculous but this is good. Large share of tracks actually specific to the movie! 😂 Snoop and his extended family deliver many West Coast bops. And this cover!

#MusicChallenge 25 years of T.I. "I'm Serious." 1st full listen? Another big GA debut today. Eh, hadn't grown into his swagger yet. Kicking off your studio career with an introspective track is a choice. Then plenty drug talk. Bouncy beats from DJ Toomp, Neptunes, Jazze Pha. Sex raps with a legend!

Fair enough! I think you're right about France. Seems unlikely that Coolio/producer Doug Rasheed looked at IAM here though, certainly Wonder's music reverberated fine on its own. US hip-hop interest in France at the time seems stronger in NYC than LA, like Wu-Tang and Nas. But who knows?

Whoa, had no idea. Very cool. Good question!

#musicchallenge 25 years of Bubba Sparxxx "Dark Days, Bright Nights." 1st full listen? The debut of this Georgia country boy is fine. Riding high on 7 beats from Timbaland, though the tabla+ use might be a bit heavy for the MC, lol. Bubba puts some Southern drawl on usual rap talk. Classic banger:

Jazz OTD: Hank Mobley recorded one of his classic later Blue Note albums, "Hi Voltage," on October 9, 1966 with Blue Mitchell (tp), Jackie McLean (ts), Bob Cranshaw (b), Billy Higgins (d), and, in one of his very early sessions, the great pianist John Hicks. #jazzsky

#musicchallenge 35 years of 2 Live Crew "Sports Weekend (As Nasty as They Wanna Be Part II)." 1st listen. Gotta say that their 5th album is mind-numbing. Sexual/offensive raps in every direction. Some inane call-and-response tracks. A few thoughts, lol. This was OK before it quickly ran together.

Thank you my friend! Good luck with the training and the new job. I can imagine that you wish it was Saturday already! 🙏💙

#musicchallenge 35 years of Scarface "Mr. Scarface Is Back." 1st full listen? Funky but punishing solo debut that is in line with the Geto Boys album of the same year. Houston gangsta rap with abundant sex and violence. There's underlying soul that lightens it a bit but not a lot. Classic:

Hello! Thank you. She has been a bit sick this week but is doing better. But we are also having problems with a 🐿️ (or 🦝?) in the walls of our house, which is no fun. Always something else! 😅 I hope you and your family are also well!
