Given how boring most modern players are, I don't think there'd be much mileage for the tabloids. If a couple of players from football's glorious past had the good grace to come out, we might have been treated to footage of a player spilling out of a Soho nightclub with a drag queen on each arm.

Some story this... Amazing that football still has this issue. I might be being naive here - considering some of the stuff I hear at Leeds match (from home and away btw) - but I'm convinced the majority would respond with a shrug of the shoulders to a high profile player coming out as gay.

Wage bill the single biggest factor. Applies to any league in the world. Best players attract the highest wages. Whether that's lads on £300 a week in the Isthmian or £300k a week in the Prem. The whole net spend discussion is largely bollocks imo.
