MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 4hI think "action to the point of horror" would be a good descriptor. 020
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 5hOh, believe me, it makes the first look positively restrained towards the end. But it DOES have a great end, I'll give it that. 120
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 5hWorth pointing out that Timo Tjahjanto, director of Night... Got his start doing horror films and sort of brings that grody sensibility across into his later action stuff. Though maybe not Nobody 2, I can't imagine it going THAT extreme. Still need to see it. 110
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 5hThe Raid 2 is good as an actioner. BUT! I mainly remember it for the action. I don't remember the story at all. Which is an issue. The Night Comes For Us is one you'd probably want to track down to see just how extreme the Indonesian actioners got later on. Joe Taslim is the hero. Iko's the baddy!static.klipy.comThe Night Comes For Us Warehouse FightALT: The Night Comes For Us Warehouse Fight 320
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 5hI think if I could pick a big hole in it, it's that apart from Taslim and Iko's characters, the rest of the squad are pretty interchangeable and not given much character. Would have just taken a couple of minutes group interplay in a chopper!static.klipy.comOmaha93 Predator in Red LightALT: Omaha93 Predator in Red Light 130
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hI meant to say @vickyblue21.bsky.social NEXT WEEK 4 realz 4 realz Watch out for her announcer tomorrow! #SundayCinema 130
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hEnjoyed revisiting that one, was I completely serious about it being a horror? Only partly. It still has the desired, overloading effect of making me suck air through my teeth in a wince. Nice one @princeymovies.bsky.social, @vickyblue21.bsky.social for REAL HORROR (?) #SundayCinema 130
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hNearing the end, I... I think I'd recommend The Raid 2 if you like this. Though be warned, it feels much more like a John Wick sequel than the tight, constrained thing this is. Goes WAY overboard. With HAMMERS. #SundayCinema 130
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hI liken this one to Halloween a lot in that compared to some of the stuff that comes later in the subgenre it spawned, it's quite subdued, but still has the power to make me wince. Every hard landing on the concrete. Every sharp implement going in a body. Just fucking OUCH #SundayCinema 020
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hThink we're about to get the film's centrepiece, SOME CONCRETE #SundayCinema 040
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hYou know what's about to happen when you watch a martial arts movie of any kind and they do a big sweeping establishing shot of a lab or a cool mansion or a posh hotel lobby or whatever. THAT SHIT IS GETTING WRECKED #SundayCinema 040
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hBlazing Magnum is the exception to EVERYTHING. It is special. 110
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hSeeing those two have a rematch in the film I mentioned above was... Pretty fucking satisfying. 020
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hWorth adding, along with director Gareth Evans and Iko Uwais, between the three of them, they choreographed all the fight scenes together to pretty great effect. #SundayCinema 030
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hSo, here we are then, the little guy's about to do something. I like whenever Yayan Ruhian turns up in an action film, benevolent or downright evil, he's got a real presence. Played a RIGHT nasty piece of shit with a bow in this year's The Furious. Again with Joe! #SundayCinema 130
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hIt's the cumulative effect thing, isn't it? There's just SO MUCH of it! 020
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hShe says as a knife graphically goes into a guy's bullet wound. And then somebody gets another knife through the neck in a lift. #SundayCinema 130
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 6hNot a horror you say? Well, Evil Dead 2013 certainly thought it was worth cribbing from. (also, I think it has it beat in that Jane Levy's facial expressions throughout THAT scene crack me the hell up) #SundayCinema 020
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hARGH, THE KNIFE DRAW DOWN THE LEG THE THROATING THE KNEE THE JESUS FUCK #SundayCinema 030
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hIt's not a terrible dub or anything from what I remember, but... Obviously not the ideal. I don't mind old 70s kung-fu dubs, they crack me up. 120
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7h"But Marge! The little guy hasn't done anything yet!" #SundayCinema 020
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hThere's a few shots here and there with some weird and pretty clear interlacing issues/tearing issues, I'm not quite clear how and what this was all filmed on, but my impression is that it was pretty low-fi, low-tech. Which really adds to it for me. #SundayCinema 030
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hOh, I should add, he's probably most familiar to western filmgoers as Sub Zero in the latest crop of Mortal Kombat movies. Which I haven't seen! #SundayCinema 010
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hI will add, the correct answers for the other two duos is Armageddon/Volcano. No, I won't be taking any questions. #SundayCinema 010
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hJoe Taslim, aka the guy in charge here, another breakout. A couple of his starring roles, particularly The Night Comes for Us, some of the finest action you ever will see. I will always recommend Night... It's a beast. #SundayCinema 120

MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hIt is one of those freak Armageddon/Deep Impact, Volcano/Dante's Peak things that this came out around the same time as past SundayCinema treat Dredd. And unlike the rest of those films, I don't have a preference, they're both good. #SundaCinema 120
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hIko Uwais, one of the three big breakout action stars from this. He's pretty good! Can do hero! Can do a pretty good villain! His action chops are high end. #SundayCinema 010
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7h#NowWatching The Raid (2011) Oi oi crew, we're in for a proper good old fashioned bit of violence tonight, as picked by @princeymovies.bsky.social. Have I made too much of the horror thing? We'll see. #SundayCinema 040
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 7hSomebody's not going to be wanting for action this week! 010
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 8hIt's rental only this week, soz. You can get it off Amazon. We've tried to steer away from renting off streaming sites of late, but every now and then, somebody will insist upon a thing and yeah, it happens. (ooh, looking into it, they do have a 7-day free trial for some action thing) 120
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 8hFINISH HIM First timers buckle up for some white knuckle ultra-violent, wince inducing grimy thrills as we embark on The Raid (2011) in one hour! Or The Raid: Redemption if you like. I prefer "OUCH: The Movie". Come join, 8pm BST! #SundayCinema 121

MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 11hActually not bad! Quite amusing in fact. Our smug killer this time out (Héctor Elizondo) getting a hell of comeuppance after smugging too close to the sun. If not mindblowing, I think that's just because it's coming off the back of Forgotten Lady. Anything after that is going to pale in comparison. 010
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 12hSticking with it! First impressions are not everything! 210
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 13hToday's episode of Columbo! I'm not even five minutes in and I am already getting extremely bad vibes from this one. 320
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 13h*Ruhian, for shame, I've been spelling it wrong for AGES 030
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 15hYayan Ruhain? Horror movie. You're going for a doorway and this guy is suddenly standing there blocking your way? Probably dead. Michael Myers ain't got shit on this guy. Come join the #SundayCinema gang tonight for Gareth Edwards' seminal action (and horror) film The Raid (2011). 254
MuddyFunster @fuddymunster.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I was thinking from the start, "we've done this episode before, haven't we? With Anne Baxter?" and... No, no, this is not that at all. Whole different beast. Not to shit on that episode, Baxter's wild eyed panicky smiling in it is so great. 010
