Right but none of that, to me, negates that I’m a long-term meat accident that constantly assembles a system for safely interacting with the world by modeling the behavior of other meat accidents (some dead), with love and family as emergent properties of my system. It feels nicer than it sounds.

I basically believe consciousness is just active simulation of other consciousnesses on imperfect hardware so that’s okay if it happens. But right now I have a much deeper internal model of our cats even though I use Claude all day.

text spam is getting wild out here, cold open, fake NY area code, throws you right in the middle of the story
Spam text: If you're hoping for overnight arrangements, that's perfectly fine with us. Adult toys are also more than welcome. The one thing we truly value is a respectful atmosphere — no alcohol, and nothing rough. We are a few close friends, all twenty-six, just out of college, looking to meet mature gentlemen around this area. And our time is entirely flexible: your free time is our free time. For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

Welcome reminder for me to go look at real data too—thank you! On the last pt—in public, the more I talk about AI the more people want to talk about craft and disciplinary boundaries. IMO the people most in love with bots are...doctors. If a trade guild can set policy, AI's all upside.

I pretty firmly believe that consciousness is best defined as transmissible interiority.

Even in software it’s mixed. It’s generating a lot of work, in good and bad ways. Bosses were excited to fire but now they’ve stopped talking about that. There’s change—juniors aren’t getting hired (may not be AI tho); jobs that involve cutting and pasting from PDFs will go. But no single outcome.

My personal Turing test is that I will accept machine consciousness when I can internalize that consciousness to the same degree that I can internalize Eliot’s voice in Middlemarch. Until then it’s text generation.

whatever is going on inside large language models I no longer want to know about it
Claude output: I found the causes: the hand job's visibility was flickering based on momentary input backlog, and stored items weren't persisting on reload, while the wagon never retired because cheap old buildings always beat newer ones on output-per-dollar. Now I'll check what the test asserts about hiding before changing the logic.
