This is so wrong-headed. You could not pay me to take a drug that was not tested in animals, and animal models remain absolutely essential for discovery research www.statnews.com/2025/05/19/a...

There is no replacement (yet) for animal models in medical research
The NIH is “reducing animal use in research.” But there is no replacement for animal models.

So incredibly happy that Ray Keller was elected to the AAAS! He's a pioneer of the cell biology of morphogenesis and of embryo mechanics, and a hero of mine. So grateful for his outstanding work. Even more grateful that he always took me seriously congrats Ray!!! www.amacad.org/new-members-...

Molecular organization of the distal tip of vertebrate motile cilia
The beating of cilia on multi-ciliated cells (MCCs) is essential for normal development and homeostasis in animals. Unlike basal bodies or axonemes, the distal tips of MCC cilia remain poorly defined....

Birth defects are diseases of development and are the #1 cause of death in the first year of life. And birth defects kill more than twice as many children as cancer. 4% of ALL hospitalizations (for all ages) are due to birth defects. Economic impact of birth defects is > 22 billion dollars per year.

A happy lab update. We have healthy froglets! 🐸💚 We switched everything to RO, and that fixed it. Not sure exactly what's going on, but we think that somewhere, someone is accidentally backwashing acid into the demineralized water system. More investigation is required. 🐸 🧪
An image of three very small, newly morphed froglets. Two are facing the camera, and one is further back and facing away from the camera.
