Funds needed urgently for dental care
Hi, my name is Hazel. I'm a trans woman in desperate need of 2 dental crowns and possibly a root canal, and they aren't covered by insurance. I fear I’ll lose my two front teeth if I can’t get them fi...

for actual newspapers yes, but for postmedia rags, being some kind of psyop is basically a prerequisite

if LLMs were somehow sentient in such a way that this has to be stopped, how would that logic not extend to the entire AI industry as a whole? torture is bad but slavery is okay?

Just for the record, I think your original thread was great and I didn't gather that as your intention, I just think it's incredibly important to emphasize now when politicians on the side that are "supposed" to be the ones following the science are rejecting it in favour of panic.

'01 and I had a computer class right out of the gate from 1st grade, though after moving across the country it seems like the one I moved to didn't start until about then either.

And this is where many supposed allies usually falter. It's easy to say flagrant, accelerating discrimination is bad. It's far harder to accept that one's preconceptions about transitioning are false, and it's really worthwhile to hammer home that they are indeed false.

(Even then, despite trans athletes being allowed in the Olympics for nearly two decades, no trans woman competing in women's categories ever won a medal, and the overall number of trans women who have won any sports competitions is anomalously low)

Trans athletes should be accepted, and should be able to win and succeed just like any other athletes, and a trans athlete winning every so often is not evidence that there's an underlying truth in banning them.

Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 29/09/2026
Discrimination against us isn't just bad because the hypothetical issue is tiny. The entire basis people have for believing it is an issue is false. Plenty of people think the bans are too discriminatory but that they are based in "common sense", and that's wrong, and should be pushed back against.
114019
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 28/09/2026
I mean, the science of it is worth getting into. These bans have no scientific backing. Research has mostly failed to show that trans athletes have any real aggregate advantages after a couple years on HRT. If there *were* a large number of trans athletes it wouldn't make the bans correct, either.

you're the one that's arguing the country music industry isn't racist because colonizers introduced it to nigeria but alright my dude

it still continues to this day; just look at how Shaboozey got completely snubbed from the CMA awards only a couple years ago, and how the industry as a whole reacted to him.

if you wanna actually talk about race and country rather than some cheap strawmen, we could talk about the fact that country music started intentionally as a white identitarian project that stole from black musicians and intentionally shut black people out of the industry for its entire lifespan

Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 27/09/2026
we're talking about canadians and australians
100
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 27/09/2026
punk and metal's global relevance in comparison to country exemplifies the fact that country is mainly an americanist cultural silo, and yes, there are lots of great black punk and metal musicians

Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 27/09/2026
yankeeboos in canada/australia liking country doesn't make it not a genre of the american rural gentry
100
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 27/09/2026
no, but you're not exactly substantially arguing against it being a primarily US-centric genre when the reason it's popular in nigeria is because of american colonizers lol

"actually country isn't just american music, it's british settler colonist music" very good pitch
110
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 27/09/2026
when i actually lived in "the country" country music was, if anything, a class signifier of business owners, landlords, "farmers", oil sands workers with mcmansions, and their trust-fund kids with personal 4-wheelers but. alright.

Were it not for DIY enanthate I literally would've run out of hormones in the middle of being homeless.

Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 23/09/2026
Above all else, trying to target a generally comprehensive and explicitly pro-DIY and radically pro-transition resource in the midst of massive crackdowns on our rights and access to healthcare just feels like a psyop. Come on. Is this really productive?
010
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 23/09/2026
Injections*. They are, indisputably, long-term, safer. Not a concern for a lot of people because the risks are so low anyways (which the guide acknowledges) but for some people it's worth considering. They are, indisputably, more consistent (though consistency is not the be-all end-all)
110
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 23/09/2026
I had to turn to DIY injections because my levels were screwed with pills regardless of method, and it's cheaper for me to get DIY enanthate than estradiol pills under "universal healthcare". I cannot afford transition otherwise. Please, tell me how privileged I am.
100
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 23/09/2026
You realize most of the people who can't access HRT through conventional methods (lack of coverage, subpar dosage, or illegality) are using injections, right? The majority of the DIY market is injections. I would not exactly call that privileged, lmao.

Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 23/09/2026
Can you point to where the shaming is? It explicitly says that any HRT is better than none and that there's reasons to choose others, but everything it says about the advantages of estrogen are truthful.

"I don't believe in anything concrete, but here's some vague religious platitudes that can mean whatever you want" is sure to resonate with voters in 2026.

Pressure Dems to not betray trans people, shame transphobes, be vocal about stuff that actually matters. "haha they're violently enforcing masculinity, that's gender affirming care!" is worse than useless.
050
Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 19/09/2026
It isn't hypocrisy, fascists enforcing gender norms has nothing to do with trans people whatsoever. Stop trivializing our healthcare by comparing it to vapid cisgender insecurities. Pretty easy.

I can navigate my filesystem way faster, basically just as a reflex, via terminal, far more than I ever could with GUI file managers, and that's far from bare metal. This is the case with a lot of things, it can become way more intuitive with practice, less friction + less clutter.

Lydia Hekataia @frogmother.net · 13/09/2026
it's like clockwork: three months before a critical election the Dems betray swathes of their most energized constituents and then can't figure out why people are mad at them

I remember every player character in detail from the GURPS games I've run, and they were all players either new to GURPS or new to ttrpgs in general. All deeply characterized, cool, and memorable. Could not tell you about most of the D&D player characters I've experienced, except a couple standouts

my dad would always tell me stories about how he just showed up to like 5 different provinces during his life with nothing but his car(s) that he bought on a few months of income from odd jobs. astounding to me. in comparison, moving across the country once essentially cost me everything.

They're barely even against that either. The actual, tangible opposition to ICE on an electoral level is "more bodycams for the Gestapo"

yeah personally as someone who is lucky enough to live somewhere that i can get government-funded bottom surgery someday, and intend to, i really don't mind stuff like this. it gives validation to the women who can't get/don't want SRS and i can just joke that i'm a fallen angel. big whoop.
