It's time for spooky games! Here's my lineup for October (plus Alan Wake cus I didn't get to it in September.)

I don't think I can pick just one game for this. So here's 4 of them. All of these were formative for me in their own way.

Patch notes for the Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring just dropped, and one line stood out. I'm gonna need more details on this, cus I suspect this means they're sprinkling some DLC weapons into the base game, which is precisely what I wanted. 🧐

Zork is Zork. I really loved how his moves had extra poise so you could tank through weaker attacks and keep the pressure up, and his rocket man ability was just *chef's kiss*. He's a powerhouse at both close and mid range, and will be a highly picked character for sure.

100

FrogBeleren @frogbeleren.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

Senator Patres was my favorite, and I won several rounds with him. I played him a bit like a spellblade, flitting in with some quick melee then backing off to hit with some powerful midrange attacks. His grab is stupid fun, but I also think he has a high skill ceiling for those who want it.

FrogBeleren @frogbeleren.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

Layla is quite clearly the strongest ranged character, with an absolutely devastating rifle. This makes her great both for PvE, picking off weak enemies and dealing with strong foes from a safe distance, but also for sneaky PvP, and I expect her to be a highly picked character.

100

FrogBeleren @frogbeleren.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

Trang Lanh was my second favorite character. What she lacked in pure lethality she made up for in trickiness and a strong midrange game with her thrown blades. I also suspect she'll be a really solid pick for people who'd rather prioritize PvE and gaining pledge virtue over all-out brawls.

FrogBeleren @frogbeleren.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

Bloodhand Jan is the most in-your-face melee character, and utterly devastating in close quarters. His axe did good stagger and I can see him being a favorite for PvP veterans who know how to keep opponents on the back foot. He's weak at range, but has plenty of ways to close the gap.

Bloodhound Jan from The Duskbloods (2026)

FrogBeleren @frogbeleren.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

Albert (aka John Duskblood) had the most approachable moveset and was a lot of fun, as befits the signature character. That said, he didn't feel like he had quite as much potential as some of the others. I'll really be curious what his other abilities are in case they push his ceiling higher.

So yesterday, we went to go see the Tales from Earthsea in a theater. I'd never seen it before, and was really nervous to as a lover of the book series it's (very loosely) based on. But I actually really enjoyed it! It's easily one of the most beautiful Ghibli films, and that's saying something!

Went to the museum this week and saw an exhibit of Etruscan artifacts, but was particularly obsessed with the crab on this vase, pinching Heracles' ankle while he fights the Lernean Hydra. What a savage diva, honesty.
