The Jerky Boys, Johnny Mnemonic, and A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon come to mind. I’d read about the Jerky Boys tapes but hadn’t actually listened to them. Still haven’t. The second one, Keanu Reeves in a William Gibson story? Sure, let’s go. The last one, some friends chose the movie.

Besides the mall stores, I often rode my bike to Peaches (later called Beeswax), Northwest Records & Tapes, and Budget Tapes & Records. When I could get to downtown Seattle, it felt like an exciting treat to descend the stairs to Bud's Jazz Records by the old Elliott Bay Books in Pioneer Square.

I had an Angels cap (adjustable mesh) and an A's batting helmet just because I liked Rod Carew and Rickey Henderson. Once I sat at the bullpen railing in the Kingdome to get up close to watch Quisenberry warm up. Kent Tekulve was fascinating because of his delivery, too.

My eldest kid's teacher Ms. McAfee was big on field trips, even going up to Puget Sound occasionally. Once they took the train! So I chaperoned visits to the Oregon Trail Museum, Schnitzer Hall, Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor, Oregon Children's Theatre, and more.

My MLB conspiracy theory: each of the other 29 owners will secretly chip in $3M to LA over the next 4 years to get Tucker’s salary to a more reasonable level, as a small payment for the casus belli to get media & the public to support the lockout and salary cap.

There isn't a river where I grew up, just some creeks, but I lived by the Dyes Inlet part of Puget Sound. Now I live near the Sandy River.

When my eldest was a toddler, she loved to jump on the bed & hit me with a flying body slam. But I'd worry, and once warned her to be careful of the edge. She exclaimed, "I LOVE the edge! The middle is boring, the edge is FUN!" Kiddo was accepted to the college of her choice this week.

In 9th grade, the librarian let me and a friend use the school video camera for a few hours after school, while she went off to work in her office or wherever. The next day, our teacher let her come into class to chew us out, as an example to everyone, for not thanking her when we went home.

I have a memory of hearing the news of Elvis' death on the radio, while riding in the family Impala. No idea why that stuck with me. My parents didn't even own any Elvis records. I don't think they were all shook up about it.

I especially like the Zappa '73-74 band with George Duke, so the new Apostrophe (') box is fun. Here's "Inca Roads" from Salt Lake City. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPM9...
