Today is Take Action for Libraries Day, a reminder that access to information matters. Right now, H.R. 7661 is moving through Congress. The bill would allow the federal government to withhold funding from schools that provide materials deemed “sexually oriented”.

This Black History Month, let’s honor the power of stories, especially those by Black authors that have been challenged or banned in Texas schools and beyond. Censorship erases voices and lived experiences, but your choice to read and uplift these books keeps those voices alive. #blackhistorymonth

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is just as relevant today as it was nearly 60 years ago. We must continue his fight to end racial injustice and discrimination, and his urging for Americans to live up to their ideals of equality, freedom, and unity.

Sometimes, the truth about censorship doesn’t come from public meetings. It comes from inside the system. Teachers, librarians, and even district staff may witness policies or actions that violate intellectual freedom but fear speaking out. Let’s make sure we honor their courage.
Working with whistleblowers: 1. Protect their identity at every opportunity and with fervor. 2. Verify facts before acting—get another source or do more research. 3. Use the information to push for transparency and accountability
