Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 08/06/2026Here's a new #Godot tutorial on creating a simple third person camera system from scratch. We also add polish to smooth the camera (sensitivity and damping), and (optionally) tweak the player movement code to move and rotate in the camera's direction. #gamedev youtu.be/ZKrBsDmU-l4youtu.beCreate a Third Person Camera | Godot 3DYouTube video by FriendlyCosmonaut 0193
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 19/05/2026Something a little bit different today... how do we translate our movement with a rotating camera? A short < 3 min (rather shaky, sorry) tutorial, exploring 2D/3D co-ordinate spaces and vector transformations. Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 03/04/2026A little open source delight... a prototype using a single texture from Kenney's prototype assets, the built-in #Godot icon to texture Godotnaut, and Mesh2Motion animations. I'll make this one available on GitHub along with a tutorial so you can code it yourself soon! #gamedev 1196
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 01/04/2026Here's a new tutorial in my #Godot #gamedev series! We get acquainted with Godot's scripting language (GDScript) and script editor. We (re)examine Node hierarchies and Classes, learn coding basics (variables/properties, functions, and if statements) and input youtu.be/BIW22YSe5nYyoutu.beLearn Basic Scripting | Godot 3DYouTube video by FriendlyCosmonaut 0218

Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 07/03/2026How do we look at another object... a very simple and classic gamedev question. The answer is atan2! youtu.be/qFSAcCwQS0E #godot #gamedevyoutu.beEssential gamedev math function: atan2YouTube video by FriendlyCosmonaut 081
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 04/03/2026godotnaut is very WELCOMING!! a little over eager but look they are rather socially anxious... #godot #gamedev 0153
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 28/02/2026so this is why look_at() is a bit UM wonky in #godot #gamedev 5203
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 27/02/2026An essential bit of gamedev math - atan2! We often know a target's position and want to face it. But how do we get the angle? angle = atan2(y / x) Or in 3D... angle = atan2(x / z) (We can also see below, what happens if we use atan instead of atan2) #godot #gamedev 411213
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 27/02/2026A new #godot tutorial that tries to answer... What are visual materials? Why are there so many slots for them!? Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 19/02/2026Ever wondered what the ".res" and ".tres" mean in #Godot? They're res-ource files! Packets of data (eg. a material) that don't do anything on their own, but can be used by Nodes (eg. to render an object). A ".res" file is binary, while ".tres" is t-ext based human readable. 1163
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 16/02/2026What assets can we use in gamedev? Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 14/02/2026My apologies friends, this week's video about asset pipelines with Godot is a little late - in part because I am (FURIOUSLY) struggling to find texture packs that are not made with AI to recommend using. Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 22/12/2025This is incredibly disappointing... as if there aren't enough hoops for women/nbs & marginilised folks to jump through to get into coding/gamedev. Rather than grooming folks down the AI slop and techbro commodification hellhole, how about we teach people to, y'know, CODE? 151
Friendly Cosmonaut @friendlycosmonaut.dev · 17/12/2025Hello friends!! My plans have changed quite substantially since we last spoke... I am FINALLY making a new #gamedev tutorial series, but this time with #godot ! 3194
