Yasuo Kuroki (1932–2007) spent his career at Sony proving design isn't decoration applied after engineering finishes. It's the thing that decides what gets built in the first place. He set the size, the buttons, the switches — and let the engineers work inside the shape he'd already decided on.

Stefan Sagmeister made design personal. His album packaging for Lou Reed, David Byrne, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, and The Rolling Stones put his work in the hands of millions of fans. In Things I Have Learned in My Life So Far he turned his diary into an installation.
