The 9 games that shaped who I am (based solely on allowing me to play as a cute girl and therefore cracking my egg)

FFCC, Guild Wars, FFX, Mass Effect, Transistor, Rock Band, Metroid Fusion, Soul Calibur 2, Pokemon Crystal

Book 5 Spoilers Ahead! With the first chapter drafted, I figure I'd give The People a look at my first cut of the opening* *all words subject to the author's arbitrary whims

CHAPTER 1

DESMOND BURKE

Fargo was dead.

Having lived a life filled to the brim with shady transgressions and outright atrocities, he still--somehow--managed one last knife between the ribs on his way out the door.

As I stood above his cold, grey corpse, sheathed in a plain white sheet instead of a loud floral button-down, I felt… nothing. There wasn’t an ounce of smug satisfaction or bitter triumph to be found in that stark and sterile environment. It was Fargo’s final victory: denying me even the slightest hint of joy in his downfall.

Others might label my muted response as personal growth.

“Some fucking bullshit is what that is.”

Yeah, sex is great, but have you ever parried the Last EMI in Metroid Dread and killed it on your first try, after a Looney Tunes chase, on Hard Mode?

Me: pulling up my big-girl panties and writing every day until this book is done even though some days it's like pulling teeth from the back of my skull. Also me: Staying up til 4 AM writing a full week's worth of words, but it's nigh-unpublishable smut. Why is my brain like this? (Answer: prog)

If you're one of the folks who read Stray Dogs but have not moved on to Guard Dogs yet, why the hell not? It's at least twice as good as the first. 2 > 1. That's. Just. Math.

Day 4, which was far better and easier than Day 3, has us now above the average words per day needed to defeat this draft before 2027. It's a marathon, tho. Not a sprint.

A big informational chart showing the word count of my current draft. We are at 5256 words.

I'm going to drag this brain, kicking and screaming, to write this draft if it kills me. First 1k-day of the drafting process accomplished. Here's to many more.

Hey nerds, if you're new here, or just need a reminder: I write queer urban fantasy with a focus on arcane action and intrigue! We start the series off with Morgan and Desmond Burke: dumbass mage siblings in a fight for survival, but in Book 2, we add Katie Geist: sunshiny midwestern necromancer.

Morgan Burke! Post transition: young white woman with long dark hair, a white tank top, and a suspiciously metallic left arm.

Katie Geist! Young black woman with curly dark hair and a gentle expression as she hugs a zombie dog!

Desmond Burke. Big, square, muscular. Young white man with very short hair and a prominent facial scar.

Lesbian Alignment: Freya Faust Ed. I really wanted Mandatory Leave to be far corner of Skull/Gun because the pairing is literally necromancer/sharpshooter, but also, they're not doing much in the way of shooting or necromancing. There's a dirty joke in there somewhere about boning.

Alignment chart with: sword/gun, flower/skull. Most of the Burke stories are skull, while the side stories are flower
