frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 11/10/2026I am going slow at this which historically has meant I am deep down nervous about it. Once I learn the real error bars I tend to move much faster (like about 5x faster literally) anyway hoping to glue this part together tomorrow morning #woodworking 110 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 07/10/2026I ended up bouncing off of reading Don Quixote in the original Spanish because the latency of looking up words was too painful. A very strange side effect of reading in Spanish was that I dreamed dreams every night. I miss that, even though the dreams were all just weird. So my plan is to […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 011 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 04/10/2026In progress neck. I hope the figure remains, the chatoyance is very pretty. #woodworking 150 5
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 03/10/2026As close to perfect as I could get. Had to shape the curve to try to get the contact to be as close to opposite the hole as possible. I’m sure there’s a way to construct that but I don’t know it. #woodworking 012 2
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 02/10/2026That was right but also I think I gotta quite while I’m ahead 😂 🩸 #woodworking 100 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 02/10/2026Oh actually maybe the issue is that the cam levers are so narrow there is no friction from the sides of the slot. I bet that’s the more significant issue #woodworking 110 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 02/10/2026Trying to make cam levers. In an effort to really be able to crank it down… I got the “slope” of the spiral too aggressive and the cam slips backwards rather than staying in place 😔 #woodworking 100 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 02/10/2026My 10 year old just had a meltdown about -2 * -2 =4 and just could not get over the signs canceling out. I tried to find a way to show that not having this rule would break something catastrophically but couldn’t get there. @mjdominus lemme know if you have ideas? 100 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 01/10/2026Just shy of two more tonight. I could finish but it’d be a whole thing. #woodworking 100 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 30/09/2026I am really annoyed that the adhesive on the back of this cork immediately (ok, like 13 hours later) pulled off of the plywood. I will probably apply epoxy to fix it but ugh I kinda hate epoxy? #woodworking #glueworking #gluenotworking 120 2
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 30/09/2026made the second clamp. Much better than the first, but still has a lot of room for improvement. I could make another one just like this and be ok with it, but correctly locating the roll pins in the lower jaw is the one big improvable bit left. #woodworking 102 2
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 29/09/2026Tomorrow I hope to make another of these without the wonk. If the revised plan works well I’ll make a few more. I don’t really know how to make a good spiral cam but I know how to make a spiral so maybe I can figure it out from there. #woodworking 100 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 28/09/2026@12thRITS it’s for light clamping, not much work needs this kind of thing but my upcoming project needs a lot of these. 001 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 28/09/2026@xabean ironically the plans on the FWW site do not really spell out how to make the cam right, but I figured it out (make the hole more off center than you expect, and make it a spiral shape) 000 0
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 28/09/2026@xabean I was using a FWW article. Easier for me than a video, if that makes sense? 100 1
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 28/09/2026Made a cam clamp today. Extremely wonky but it was a prototype and also I used the wrong metal bar rod. I’ll probably make more soon and they’ll be better #woodworking 431 4
frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 26/09/2026Need some cork for the next step. It’s already on the way. #woodworking 120 2

frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 19/09/2026Got down to 1/32” and decided that’s good enough. I’d I find that it causes problems I’ll do this again #woodworking 011 1

frew @frew.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 19/09/2026I need to refinish this table. It’s some kind of grayish plasticky finish on what looks, from the underside of the table, like maple. I was thinking scrape and color match, but am not super sure where to start. Wipe on poly with pigment? Ideas? #woodworking 000 0
