#TheOneRing #ttrpg at #RPGNight at @rbccvt.org tonight got us up to 10 players, as we had two new folks join us, and I was dancing as fast as I could to weave them into the story-in-progress. Our heroes defeated the villain, found treasures, and rescued prisoners, despite rolling terribly all night.

Sure, but at $12 a bag, which makes one loaf plus like a quarter cup of flour left over, that's hard experimentation to fit into my fixed income. I already took quite a beating from all the stuff in my pantry and freezer I had to toss and replace. If I don't hit paydirt soon, I will have to give up.

Upgraded my main monitor - same size but twice the resolution. I had the old one at 125% for my old eyes and 175% felt about the same, but I am trying to use it at 150% for a while and see if I can get used to it, for the 'more space to do stuff in' factor.

Update: While it didn't rise enough, didn't bake enough, and didn't rest enough, there are promising signs that if I get it right, the result will taste like actual bread. It's a bit expensive, especially to be experimenting with like this. But I think it'll become a nice treat when I get it right.

How did you get into TTRPGs? I was 10 in 7th grade, no friends, shy, socially inept. A 17yo grognard I knew through debate team told me "There's this new game I bet you'd like". Met his friends around the Greyhawk map. "You can make any kind of character, a wizard, an elf..." "Can I play a girl?"

After being feted at Middle Haven and meeting the notables, our heroes were tasked by Queen Nimue to recover treasure to restock what is being spent for provisions, so they've traveled to the Islet of the Teeth.

Had me curious so I went through the 21 shows I am currently watching (that haven't been cancelled). Of them, 8 arguably have at least one male character in the lead role, 8 have at least one female character in the lead role, and the other 5 are so ensemble-based that there's no obvious lead role.

Earlier I heard a tiny bit of the Prince song Little Red Corvette before going outside for a bit. The radio that always plays in my head somehow turned this into Little red Corvette, the kind you find in a second-hand store. I don't think I've ever been to that kind of second-hand store.

And maybe more importantly - the mower's perimeter wire near the driveway is taken up. Because the snowplow always tears it to shreds. So I put in inline connectors so I can take that stretch out and put it back in in spring. Let's see how he destroys things anyway this year.

#Autumn is very fully here. The sun was dancing on the foliage of one of my maples yesterday - the photo didn't really capture it. And I've brought in the first half-cord-face of firewood - neither the first nor the last winterization chore, but perhaps the most moment-marking.

The sun shines through the trees seen off my deck, particularly illuminating one maple that has gone dramatically autumnal in reds and oranges.

People talk about LLMs 'hallucinating' and I wonder if that's the wrong word. Isn't every LLM hallucination just it parroting something untrue that some human said? Same thing it's doing when it's getting something right. Actually hallucinating would be better - it'd be an act of creativity.

Finished adventure #1 in my #TheOneRing #ttrpg at #RPGNight at @rbccvt.org. Made heavy use of Ruins of the Lost Realm elements: Ghost Bird, Swantown, otters, dream-swans, Wise-women, Fisher-folk, Enfys, Lond Daer. Hinted at Tree of Sorrow the first nibble of a Dark Design. Now tired and happy.

Same, though my maps were scribbles on the back of the green-bar paper that had come out from my playing it (this was before glass TTYs). Other kids saw me at it and played, so they took it off their computer. I put it back on. They took it off. Other kids put it back on. They eventually gave up.

I've always used a pump spray thingie to apply deck treatment. Gets into every nook and cranny, but it clogs up regularly, so the process takes longer and you need a new sprayer every time. This year I tried the paint roller approach. Much better. So much quicker. All done already! #handyperson

Trying a "game" I got on Steam at 90% discount that's actually a simulator of air traffic control. It's clearly a labor of love, not a commercial product, and mostly aimed at people who already know this stuff - how many of them want to be simulating it on their day off, though?

Yeah but it's a lot of work, so I'll probably also get store-bought. Pity CostCo no longer carries beef jerky. They have a jerky aisle with like 20 things now, but somehow in quintupling the space allocated, they got rid of all the regular jerky. Now it's all meat sticks and honey glazed stuff.

Made some homemade beef jerky, first time in years. Turned out good! The trick of it is, you're making about a pound of it at once, so you have to eat that much within, say, a week, so it will keep good but not need to go into the fridge, which really ruins the flavor. But nearly no carbs!

I think you could simulate Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewy fairly well by giving equal character points and letting Luke just keep his unspent, to use to buy bonus dice whenever he needs to pass. So he's bad at everything but can succeed at anything if he has to. It'd work for one movie, at least.

I thought "I don't know this era well - how about I play a newbie padawan who was a farmgirl?" - like: Luke, Rey, Anakin. Untrained bumpkins, yet main characters and heroes. My GM heard "Freesia wants to play someone incapable and incompetent!" I spent the whole adventure as a passenger, a burden.

1/3 of rolls being "exceptional" on the wild die was crazy, and the way skills are arrayed under attributes is weird and makes some concepts impossible. Force skills are too hard to get and advancement of them is too complex and too burdened by teacher requirements. But all that could work, if...

My games skew towards "well-known settings" these days since much of my roleplaying is Open Table at a community center, and it's a lot easier to get players to feel comfortable dropping in and out if the setting is one they already know and have emotional attachments to.

My Star Wars was also the d6 version. Can't say I loved it. Could be made workable (but my GM didn't manage it). Then again, Edge of the Empire, at a quick glance, also looks a bit clunky.

Recently Meta blocked me posting in Messenger without giving them a photo of my ID. Last year they deleted pages for LGBTQ+ organizations without notice. They put them back, but it's clear they had, and have, a plan. Now this. What will they have to do to get people to leave? Eat live puppies?

And a very nice morning number. The more I think about it, the more I think yesterday's sky-high numbers were due to my body reacting to the crash of suddenly cutting off a lot of stuff, causing a dawn phenomenon spike, and this is gonna be okay.

Had a much better after-dinner measure, and each walk after a meal has been longer than the previous one. Starting to think it's not as bad as it seemed - might be my body saw the sudden plummet and overreacted, giving me high Dawn Phenomenon to start the day. Will try a cheese snack before bed.

I have a physical (with a new doctor - again!) in a few weeks. I'm sure she's gonna look at me like someone who has always had diabetes and ignored all the advice (most of which is "happen to be a skinnier person than yourself") and treat me like she has to explain to me what a carb is.

Next thing to test is varying the timing of post-prandial exercise. The patterns I learned in 2000-2013 do not necessarily apply; I have a whole different digestive system. Maybe different things hit my sugars now than did then. Lots of science still to do. But not as hopeful as I was yesterday.

Brain reminds me that one day could mean anything, that I have to do a lot of tests of a lot of strategies before I know anything. But also, how can I have 200s-and-up and only 7.3? Rest of me is panicking. Am I back to giving up... bagels, potatoes, bread, soda, most snacks, all sweets?
