The year would have been 1930. I believe it was a realty firm or an investor firm of some sort.

Looking for which person/company is associated with an old phone exchange from Los Angeles County. Does anyone have suggestions on finding the business associated with MO 18295?

And don't get me started on his centrist views about violent protest. There comes a point when peaceful protests under apartheid don't work. Even MLK Jr realized at the end that peaceful protests weren't the be all end all.

Finally getting to this episode. This one has frustrated me the most from this interview. He does so much talking about nothing. He is more steeped in Zionism than he realizes.

Hey #genealogy and #history community. Is there anyone who might be able to go to the California state archives for a some volunteers at an abandoned cemetery in the state? I really need to see what info a court case has, but we don't have $450 to pay for the 1800 pages. 🙏

Practically all the records from the early years of Lincoln were lost because of the poor management of Jules Roth. He is the man who ran Hollywood Cemetery into the ground, too. The friends and family of Lincoln deserve to have this sacred space honored and upkept. Include its history.

I can talk to the person before they go to give them the information I have now to help them quickly go through those 1800 pages. We are looking for names and dates and possibly any maps. Large portions of those papers will be legalese that won't matter to the research we are doing.

Sacramento Archive help needed! I volunteer at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Carson, CA. There are records at the state archives in Sacramento that we need to see. 1800 pages/$450. Money we do not have. I am looking for someone to go to the archives in Sacramento to take pictures. #genealogy

I am volunteering at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Carson, CA. It was abandoned by the owner because of ill health. We are starting the process of digitizing the grave cards. We are at 455 people indexed so far. That is out of 20 acres. We've got a ways to go. #genealogy #BlackGravesMatter

Michael Leshing is even more interesting than you thought. I found out last week that he was one of the founders of Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Carson (formerly Compton) a cemetery created to be non restrictive so African Americans could be buried there freely.

I had plans to do research before leaving to meet some clients. But FamilySearch is down so my plans are changed. It feels like I need to have a list of things I can work on when one site is down. 😁

I did see on the Find a Grave forums that you have to wait for the app to triangulate your position and it can take awhile sometimes. I'll at least try it myself the next time I am there. We will start "mowing the rows" or whatever it is they call it. 😁 It's gonna take a long time. 😅

Here is the cemetery (left side of the street on the map). You can see some people added GPS and a few graves are outside of the cemetery.

20 acres is a lot of ground to cover. The graves are tightly packed, too. And we need to get all the stones uncovered before taking the aerial pictures. The cemetery was abandoned so volunteers are the ones who keep it up so we would need a day when something like 10K plus stones are fully uncovered

Something more accurate than a cell phone is better than just using a cell phone. 😁 But yeah, definitely not spending anywhere near that much for the better ones.

*5 meters
000
Colleen @free2l.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
And to add to that, the sections of the cemetery are not well marked and there are at least 25 graves per section. So 3 meters/~20 feet difference is a lot of distance to try to narrow down where a grave is.

Does anyone have a GPS device recommendation? I am volunteering at a cemetery and we want to remap the cemetery. We are able to use a cite called Find a Grave for the mapping, but phone GPS signals are not the best. Any recommendations?

They assume because mainstream media isn't showing them or it isn't in their algorithm that it isn't happening. 🙄

Went to the county today do to some research on the cemetery I volunteer at. We didn't find what we were hoping to in the real estate records, but they were awesome to point us towards the assessors office to better narrow down ownership over the years. #oneplacestudy

There were antiquarians "scientist" who studied people in cities and came to the same conclusion. The phrenology stuff and all the race things come into play, too. One story in the States - a woman was sterilized because her mother had her out of wedlock so the state thought she would be the same.

And I hate it. Why is this the European/American default? These people who harmed humanity so much are never held accountable. It happened after the Civil War, WWII, etc. And no one is truly held accountable. (Nuremburg and Reconstruction did next to nothing).

hey #genealogy. I have another question. Can you help me figure out what this spelling is. It was later called Centreville, Union Co, PA. I know it was just SW of a place now called Penns Creek, near Jack's Mountain. Google searches are so much harder now that they've changed their algorithm.
