I am now keeping this on speed-dial

Edited old IBM printout in black caps on off-white paper.
'A computer can never be held accountable
Therefore a computer must always do the hacking haha what are they gonna do, put a computer in jail? Haha "oops it's alive" lmao'

Les recommendations intenables, c'est super pratique. Si tu te sens mieux ça sera grâce à la nutritionniste et si tu ne te sens pas mieux c'est parce que tu n'as pas réussi à suivre le rythme.

Not only does your opinion on efficiency make sense, but it's a very popular subject in software engineering. Premature optimization is the root of many problems.

They might be the farthest country from a coffee tree in the world. That probably doesn't help.

During my holidays, I found a 500mm telephoto lens from the 70s at a second-hand shop. It has mold inside of it, it had a bump, it has razor-thin focus that you need to focus manually - which takes ages - but I've fallen in love with this weird old thing. Here, I brought it to a textile museum.

Zoom on the details of a yellow/green spool of thread. There are other spools in front and behind it, but they are out of focus since the focus is extremely thin.

Yellow, blue and red threads of cotton inside a handloom. Vertical needles separate the threads. They are aligned in a zig-zag shape and I already forgot what the exact purpose of these needles is, although they look cool from up-close like that.

A lot of parallel orange cables held by what looks like tiny carabiners inside a Jacquard machine.

Up-close shot of fluffy cotton. It must be incredibly soft and comforting to be a tiny beatle and be able to crawl in it.

It reminded me of Her Story and the Roottrees are Dead, but with a more nebulous and metaphorical story, that talks about the power of creation, who can appropriate it, and in some ways, recent conversations about LLM.

It took me some time to get into the game, because you have to understand what you're expected to do and the logics that are at work, but once I got that, it was really compelling. 🧵

When I'm traveling, I play point-and-clicks or puzzle games that run on my tablet and work with its trackpad. This time, it was TR-49. A puzzle game by the great Inkle studio, where you read entries in an Enigma style machine where each entry corresponds to a code and gives you hints on other codes🧵

A screenshot of TR49, displaying the first screen you see in the game, with the code TR49.

A screenshot of TR-49 with the code CC-49. Some text is visible on screen, pointing to other codes.

A screenshot of TR-49 showing the notes you manipulate. Here the notes about CC49, corresponding to an unknown person.

Gmail has this very interesting feature that if you mention somebody by address in the body of your mail, they will be silently added to the receiver list. Which is moderately convenient in 70% of cases and incredibly bad in the remaining 30%. Got reminded of that by receiving one of the latter...

Her stories are slices of life, that feel very authentic and important. She talks about death and sickness in a way that is both very blunt, and appeased. It's obvious that these stories are drawn by an old woman who knows death and loss intimately. And that makes them touching and important.

Just finished "Offshore Lightning" ("Au tomber du soleil" in French) by Nazuna Saitō. A collection of short stories by this woman I had sadly never heard about, who started drawing manga in her forties and didn't publish a lot, but was incredibly talented 🧵

The cover of the French version of the book, titled "Au tomber du soleil". Two old persons are sitting on a bench, looking at the setting sun.

A page of the manga. A beautiful and ethereal woman talks to a young boy who's flustered.

A page of the book where an old woman is suffering in her hospital bed and thinking that a beatle is in her mouth and devouring her

A page of the book where an old woman feeds a start cat and talks to an old man.

I agree that the standard bike experience on Strasbourg can be quite bad. But when I do my Saturday drive along the ring, I usually see 2-3 cars max, that don't mark the stop. Today was 6 + the one that tried to kill me. And that's with less cars than usual.

I took my bike for the first time since the beginning of the heat wave and it's frightening how cars are driving completely erratically. As I was thinking about how dangerous it was, a car almost rolled me over on a protected crossing.
