Looking forward to presenting on the use of aerial imagery and US technical expertise in the selection of the site for Brazil's new capital, Brasília, in the early 1950s. The panel also has presentations on Guatemala and the Amazon. #AHA2025 #skystorians aha.confex.com/aha/2025/web...

Marking the release of a new volume on the history of the Brazilian Interior, @jacobblanc.bsky.social and I organized a panel at #AHA2025 with some of the book's contributors. Friday, January 3, at 1:30 pm. aha.confex.com/aha/2025/web... @utexaspress.bsky.social @historians.org #skystorians
Cover of the book "The Interior: Recentering Brazilian History," edited by Frederico Freitas and Jacob Blanc. The cover features a map of Brazil encasing a 19th-century black-and-white illustration of a man and a horse in central Brazil. The illustration is originally from "Flora Brasiliensis" by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius.

Undergrad students in my Digital History class analyzed the loss of commuter rail stations in Chicago between 1928 and 2019. They found that areas gaining stations were more white, while those losing stations became increasingly African American. #skystorians #history @ncstatehistory.bsky.social
