🌱 #sixonSaturday from my tiny garden this week. Description in Alt text. Flu and Covid vaccines later so I will be taking it easy today.
A collage of six pictures from my tiny garden this week. Although it is officially autumn, there is still lots of colour. The large picture is a very striking Dahlia with yellow and red petals called Lake Ontario (definitely not Lake America). Next to it is a Heuchera with mottled green and grey leaves and a spike of tiny coral red flowers. Below it is a red Snap Dragon. At the bottom are two purple and fed Fuchsias, one with slender flowers and one with fat flowers. In between them is an orange Calendula flower.

A Red Admiral pauses to feed on a strawflower, its papery petals glowing like rubies in the autumn sunlight. These striking butterflies can often be seen on the wing well into autumn, bringing another flash of colour to the garden in the first days of October.
A Red Admiral butterfly, with dark brown-black wings marked by vivid orange-red bands and white spots, feeds on a pink and ruby-red strawflower with a bright yellow centre. Two unopened blooms sit below against a softly blurred green background.

Cosmos are another birth flower for those born in October. Their name comes from the Greek “κόσμος”, meaning order, harmony or adornment. Perhaps inspired by their name, and the balanced shape of the flowers, cosmos have come to symbolise harmony and perfection. #FlowersOnFriday
A pale pink cosmos flower with a yellow centre, visited by a bumblebee. Delicate buds, feathery foliage and softly blurred pink cosmos flowers fill the green background.

🌱 #Passiflora racemosa ‘Buzios’ with its glorious racemes of pink flowers colourful both before the flower opens and after it closes. An autumn delight! It is more correctly P. princeps now, a shame as racemosa is good descriptive name, and might be a naturally occurring hybrid!

Yes , harvest, remove the stems and central vein (contains latex), wash the leaves, and place them in the oven at 160°C for about 20’, flip them occasionally. Once they are crispy, they are ready: crumble the larger pieces by hand, then process in a blender to get a fine powder

In perfumery, gardenia accords are built from white floral and green fragrances, along with indole, to give a funky/dirty note of realism. They simulate the lush, rich fragrance of gardenia without using floral extracts of gardenia. 📷: G. jasminoides cultivar. #Gardenia #Rubiaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱
